Okay so on flavor alone this place would get 5 stars easily. It's my favorite place to get a carne asada burrito, at least until... now. When you get a burrito in San Diego (really, anywhere in so cal), it's an unwritten rule that it should be hefty enough tobe difficult to finish in one sitting. That's how every good place is, and that's how this place was up until a few days ago.Look, I get that inflation is crazy high, prices need to rise, shrinkflation, whatever. What I got was more of a mini burrito -like half the size it should be. At least add the option of ordering the original size, even if it costs more. By the end of aburrito I should be breathing heavily with the meat sweats, not feeling well enough to run a 5k. Read more

Terrific Mexican street food in a casual, nondescript storefront. I was skeptical when I first saw the soupy consistency of the... enchilada sauce but was won over by the delicious flavor. It also packs some heat. The beef taco was flavorful with tender meat, crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes and a spicy salsa. The green salsa is citrusy and the red salsa is smokey and rich. This place isdoing something special; give it a try. Read more

Unfortunately, I can't let this go unmentioned: I never imagined a taco-shop screwing up rolled tacos, but these guys did... today. Four words: THERE WAS NO CHEESE. The lightest dusting of cotija on top, but no grated cheese and the unwantedaddition of sour cream and tons of lettuce. I have nothing positive to say about my experience. I scraped everything off andate the bare tacos with their red salsa (which had absolutely no spice at all). Maybe I caught the kitchen on an off day... Read more

La Perla #2 is at least as fantastic as LA Perla one, but may be even better for one reason: PARKING! The original location is... right on the PB Boardwalk, so parking is generally impossible. The new location has its own lot in front and back, and evenaccessible street parking. The food is exceptional. They have quite possibly the BEST California Burrito in San Diego (and I'vetried a lot of them. The meats are seasoned well and the burritos are always well balanced. Go here, get a California Burrito, alternate between smothering it in green and red salsa and live a happy life. Read more
