Reviews for La Doña in San Diego, CA
Popular restaurant in heart of Ocean Beach. Food & drinks are good but overall menu is pricey for what it is. We were party of... four seated at outside patio (dog friendly) and our waiter was pretty good but he brought us the check while we were stilleating. It?s a very impolite practice and a big turn off. Also the plate pictured had plastic wrap still intact on the cheeseand I had to spit it out. Vibe is good & service is usually good. Street parking only and it gets very congested around thearea. 3.1/5 ?? Read more
We found La Dona's online and were intrigued by the menu. Let me tell you the experience far exceeded the expectations created... by the website. The wait staff was super friendly and helpful with food allergy special orders. The food is fabulous and supertasty. Traditional with a new age fusion flair. Chef Gabby came out to talk to us. I failed to read the shrimp taco was eitherbreaded or grilled. When I was served the breaded shrimp I set it aside figuring I would take it to a friend, . . . because, Ifailed to order it properly. When the waitress saw I wasn't eating the shrimp she questioned me and I answered honestly. Shegrabbed a plate said I'll get you grilled shrimp. Let me tell you the grilled shrimp tacos were amazing especially if you addthe house made spicy salsa. Dog friendly on patio. Would definitely return. Read more
If you can't make it during happy hour, I highly recommend going between 12pm-1:30pm on the weekend when you can order from the... breakfast menu and the regular menu. The chilaquiles and chef's special enchiladas are so good. Everything is fresh, deliciousand best paired with one of their amazing cocktails. Read more
Decided to try this spot while out and about and we were thoroughly satisfied. For starters, my wife and I had the cucumber and... topo chico skinny margaritas. Both drinks were very light, refreshing, and didn't overwhelm you with tequila, however, you stillget a little buzz after two. Definitely one of the best margaritas I've ever had. For food, I had the beef birria tacos andelote. The beef birria was seasoned very well and just enough to where i wasn't so full I hated myself. A little life hack is topour the consome on the elote for max flavor enhancement. A side effect of this will be waist enlargement and extra sassinessbut your taste buds will temporarily thank you. Overall, great experience and I would machete chop through 6 miles of denseforest to eat here again. 10/10 would recommend to a friend. Read more
A good amount of seating indoors and outdoors! They were able to take a reservation for a large group by phone which was really... helpful! They have quite a few of vegetarian and vegan options and a variety of margaritas and drinks. Really enjoyed theatmosphere and had good service. Read more
Had a fantastic meal while visiting from out of town. Cocktails are outstanding - recommend the vaya con dios (perfect mix of... spicy and tangy)! The warm chips and homemade salsa is a yummy opening snack. Started with the antojitos board - fantasticempanadas and the bacon wrapped cheese and chorizo stuffed jalapenos are to die for. The tres mares is meal unto itself -incredible balance of flavors. The tampiquena may be the most complete and satisfying mix of flavors ever! Our wonderful serverAndrianna was friendly, efficient and had excellent recommendations. On a previous night we stopped in for dessert. The freshlyprepared churros are absolutely the best I've ever tasted and the coconut shortbread lemon bar is the perfect mix of sweet andtangy. If you're in Ocean Beach, be sure to stop in for drinks, appetizers, entrees or dessert - they have it all. Read more
Can't exactly complain about the food here, but there are so many great, authentic taco places nearby that I really recommend... heading elsewhere. My boyfriend and I did a self-coordinated "taco tour" while visiting San Diego, and I encourage you to headto Ed Fernandez, El Gordo in Chula Vista, the Taco Stand (lots of locations around the city), or Nico's Mexican Food in OceanBeach. Blows a place like this out of the water. Service was good here. Food was just mediocre. Nice outdoor seating so you cansoak up the sun while eating. Read more
I got a vegetarian dish. My boyfriend got a meat dish. His dish was fine. Mine did not have any warning of how spicy it was on... the website. I couldn't even eat my foods because they lit my mouth on fire.. Drinks were good. I didn't like that we were satoutside in the sun after I asked the waitress to sit us inside because my skin is sensitive. They had umbrellas up, but the sunwas still hitting me. They were also a bit pricey. Won't be going back. Read more
