Reviews for El Chaparral Mexican Restaurant - San Antonio in San Antonio, TX
Even though I enjoy Mariachis, not during lunch especially playing right by our table and we couldn't even communicate with our... friends. We came from Fort Worth and music too loud. Once they went to other side it was alot better. Love puffy tacos butthese were a little over cooked. They need to be lighter and softer. But really good flavor!! Great service and atmosphere. Lovethe family story. Would eat there again next time I'm in town. Read more
The restaurant is large and there?s a lot of space between tables. The wooden road runner in the middle of the dining room is a... nice touch. Food is just the right temperature, well prepared, and delicious. The bar mixed us a drink that wasn?t on the menu.It was good. Mason attended our table and gave us excellent service. Overall, we had an enjoyable supper. Read more
(They do not honor menu price) Went this evening to have a casual dinner, this was my second time coming and it was highly... disappointing. Outside and indoor decor is nice, but I would suggest putting that to $$ on new menus with accurateprices. First red flag was when we were sat at our booth table it was a bit wet, I called over a staff member that was nearby(manager in charge) and asked if we can get a rag to DRY the table, immediate response "it's sanitizer" ok I want a drysanitized table then. The rest of my experience was subpar, I ordered my food and a cocktail (the ONLY cocktail that has aprice in their menu $8) my food came before my drink. It was not busy, very few people at bar, would say 10 mins later finallygot my drink. At this point can't wait to just leave, I get my bill and I see I'm being charged $10 for my cocktail. I notifiedmy waitress and she said she'd talk to her manager, manager comes over and gives me an unnecessary/over exaggerated excuse oninflation changing from 1 day to a next and how (his words) owners do not want to change menu's because it's too expensiveand putting tape over it makes menus look ugly. (Personally id rather be notified from the get go about prices) And ended withhow they use "better quality" than other restaurants and then FINALLY a insincere apology. I'll end with this, other restauranthave accurate prices on both cocktail and food menus. So guess I'll be going to those establishments from now on. Will not beback ever. Read more
The place is pretty don?t get me wrong but The worst first time, waiter spilled our water and my skillet plate looked good but... the whole skillet was cold to the touch, barely had any meat, beef was very chewy, rice was cold. Service took long and wasn?t alot of people either I would not go again. I feel sick now and that was the last place I ate. Read more
Delicious and fresh food every single time. First time around (over a year ago), i was critical but El chaparrals customer... service is truly superb. I say this always "if you're in San Antonio as a restaurant and the food is whack, why even be inbusindss- we live in the food mecca of South Texas....it's assumed all food is delicious and customer service always sets itapart". And so it goes here. Delicious, hot and fresh!!! And a kind smile and speedy staff really set this establishment apart.Very well deserved five stars. Read more
Ambiance- just as I expect/hope, felt great. Probably my favorite, was the music was set at the perfect volume. Probably only... complaint, if it?s a complaint, is it was cold. Bring a sweater. Service - attentive, polite and enthusiastic Food-chips/salsa were great, bean soup was great. Asked for server recommendation on enchiladas, was brought jalapeño and verdechicken with beans and rice. Terrific. The churro bites were unexpectedly great and way more than i expected. Price- I wassuper surprised of the price for the quality. Great! Read more
Unfortunately, our experience was not the best. ENVIRONMENT The environment was nice. The two at the individuals at the front... were friendly and welcoming. They seated us immediately in one of their booths. The tables were clean and the music wasnice. SERVICE Our hostess was pleasant, but inattentive. We never got a refill on our drinks and she didn?t check on us to seeif the food was okay. It also took a very long time for us to get our food. FOOD The food looked yummy, but feel short. Thebeef was overcooked and tough to chew. The queso dip seemed to be velveeta with no added ingredients. And the other side itemstasted bland. COSTS We ended up paying $68 for two people with 10% tip. We were also given a military discount on one item, even though we both served. Also, the item chosen was neither the most expensive nor least expensive. I?m not sure how theydecide how to apply the discount. The items seemed overpriced when we could have gotten similar quality food with better serviceat a chain restaurant. Read more
Great food, surprisingly not expensive, great service, nice atmosphere. I don't live in San Antonio, but if I did, it would be... my first choice for Mexican food. Felt the need to edit after reading other reviews. Food here is great. Not your typicalsalsa, chips looked homemade, you get charro beans as an appetizer as well and they are great. My mom cooks amazing homemadeMexican food, and I know she would like it here. The food we ordered was not your cookie cutter typical taste. It definitelyhad some love and originality in it. I've been to another restaurant similar to this one and my bill there was twice as much. Will be back on my next trip to San Antonio. Read more
