Interesting place to stay. It?s perfect for an overnight to Salem. It?s centrally located to all of the best attractions and has... free parking. We were able to pull in and not look at the car for the next two days. The Tavern Restaurant is located in thelobby and was not only convenient but fantastic and reasonably priced. The hotel is a relic from days gone by and really adds tothe Halloween feeling. Lots of original details have been kept, like the mailbox system on each floor that is still working, sosend a postcard. We stayed in a single room. It was enough to be able to sight see and sleep at night but if honestly if you?remore than one person spring for a bigger room. The bathroom is odd, small but clean with quality toiletries. But, the shower isseparate and SMALL. Fine for me and my husbands use, but if you have kids you need to help or are a person who?s larger or withdisabilities I don?t think it would work. It was a quiet stay despite the time of year, you may run into some ghost huntersevery now and again or maybe even a ghost. We checked out and booked our stay for next year in a Queen room. Loved it: Read more

This hotel is the place to stay if you go to Salem! It is literally located in the center of it all and full of history. We also... dined at the Tavern, and the food and service were great. The rooms are not very big but overall comfortable. The lobby is veryinviting and you often see guests having coffee or cider and chatting. I was very pleased with the experience overall. The onlyone bad detail was that we were trying to make the room cooler and when we called the reception during the night, a very rudemale staff answered and didn?t even let my friend finish her sentence and cut her off to scold her about the AC being off. Howwere we supposed to know that? I think he could work on his manners, but his rudeness did not make a dent on our overallexperience. The rest of the staff were delightful. We would definitely stay here again! Read more

Centrally located; most everything in walking distance. Parking included for guests, which was nice to have a place to keep our... rental while we explored. The hotel itself, I suppose, is what one should expect from a nearly 100 year old hotel. Smallbathrooms, shower didn?t drain well, water pressure was weak. I know the historic aspect is part of its charm, but the plumbingcould be improved, especially for the price of the rooms. Overall a decent stay; worth it for the location & parking. Read more

I loved every thing about this hotel. The location is perfect and It?s charming and elegant. The hotel staff was also excellent.... We stayed in the Emmerton Suite , 612 and noticed some things moving around in there like the key card and bathroom doorsclosing on their own. I can?t really explain what that was but it didn?t take away from the beauty of this hotel and definitelyadded to the whole experience. The restaurant downstairs had delicious drinks , dinner and breakfast. The kids menu is alsogreat my daughter loved it. Would return here on my next visit to Salem. Maybe next time I?ll bring my dog since I saw that theyare a dog friendly hotel :). 5 stars ! Read more

We took a family vacation to Salem and did not want the use of a rental car. Our perfect stay at the Hawthorne Hotel was in the... perfect spot. We walked everywhere! I loved this property so much; the history, the restaurant, the room, everything wasdelightful during our stay. We had two queen beds and the 2 bathrooms which was perfect for our family of 4. There was plenty ofspace and we had a great view of the marina and downtown Salem. It is an older hotel but none of that mattered. The hotel isclean and has a comfortable and cozy lobby. The food was delicious at The Tavern and we had breakfast, lunch and dinners there. When we had already checked out, I realized I had left an expensive bottle of shampoo and conditioner. I called that night toinquire if they had been turned in. To my surprise, I received a call the next morning that they had been found and would beleft at the front desk. We were staying in a VRBO in Lynn so it was a quick drive back to pick them up. Outstanding service! Weloved that the first thing you see when you walk out of the hotel lobby is The Salem Witch Museum and the Salem Common. Atnight, it is so quiet. We are looking forward to our return visit. Yes, the Hotel is slightly run down, and the bathrooms are incredibly small, but that's it. The location is probably in the... best possible spot there is in Salem. The Hotel may be in need of a sight renovation, but the Hotel was spotless, and thecleaning crew might moonlight for a Nascar Pit crew. As we were going downstairs to our car, we saw the cleaning crew near ourroom. Maybe 20 minutes later I realized I forgot something and went back to the room. I opened the door, and the room wasspotless. We tried both restaurants in the Hotel and I can say they are better than anything in the area. The service wasfantastic in both, and the food matched the service. Even the complimentary coffee in the morning was fantastic. The freeparking is a game changer. We ventured out of Salem, and it was a pleasure to just be able to park back in the lot. Loved theHotel, loved the food, and cannot give the staff enough praise. Read more

Highly recommend this hotel. I've never been to a place like this. At first I thought my room was small (I think they called... it economy), but I loved it! Little pricey, but no complaints. I would definitely stay here again. Tyler at the front desk,as well as his staff, were top notch. They helped us with recommendations and getting places. They would remember us the nextday and ask how things were with the recommendations. Nathaniel's Restaurant wasn't 100% on service on one of the two days, butI'd be back. Hotel was wonderful! Tip: Call even if it doesn't show availability. They may have some. Read more
