I was staying at the Hotel Salem for a weekend (highly recommend!) and Counter is the first thing you walk into at the hotel. I... had a grilled cheese sitting on a literal pillow of fries! Both were delicious. I'm only taking off a star because my brotherand I waited for a while for someone to walk by with menus until I awkwardly walked up to someone behind the counter and askedif I had to order before being seated -- you don't. It was the tail end of Halloween season so it was somewhat busy but I alsoonly saw one person waiting tables and there was a large group seated next to us. We came in for lunch at Counter on a busy Sunday in Salem. The place seemed a bit unorganized as nobody came to give us menus... or water for a bit so we had to flag down a waiter. The food was just alright, definitely nothing special. If you are fine withthat, the location and vibe should suffice. Read more

My husband and I LOVE this place! It's the perfect date night spot. The staff is incredibly welcoming, and the food is... consistently outstanding. They are super inventive with their specials, and everything always tastes amazing. They ventureoutside the box from your "typical" restaurant specials menu, and it is so worth it. Hands down the best cheeseburger I've everhad anywhere. Ever. The desserts are not only unbelievably delicious, but are visually works of art as well. We always lookforward to our visits here! I got the lobster gnocchi. The sauce was very good but the portion was tiny and the lobster was too overcooked for me or my... friend to eat. Even if you like uppity fancy places, there's better in Salem. Great drink menu though. Read more
