Reviews for Angela’s on the River in St Albans, WV
This is a great place for casual dining with a nice atmosphere. The food is good and made to order. They serve adult... beverages. The service is top notch too. There is plenty of room for large gatherings. I have attended birthday celebrations andclass reunions here and have had a great time. I will give them a big thumbs up! Read more
We had a pleasant dinner with friends. The atmosphere was relaxed. Our server, Hunter, was very nice. My salad was tasty and... fresh. And my ribeye steak was delicious. The only disappointment was the "garden rice", essentially a pilaf. The rice had sattoo long in a warmer and had dried out. Also, one of the herbs used in the seasoning was overpowering and gave the dish toostrong a flavor. Read more
Fantastic service and food. I ate until I dropped and I probably could've eaten more. The food is great homestyle - staff is... incredible & very attentive and Angela is such a charm. Views of the river are great and add to the old school WV charm. Read more
Beautiful historical venue. The hot crab dip appetizer was excellent! The food was amazing! Our first time, but we will... definitely be back! Read more
First time here for me. My better half came earlier to dine with her sisters. I had the crab stuffed flounder (Whitefish). With... sauted mushrooms and sugar snap peas, and rice. A most delicious, well made dish. She had the baked steak last time and achicken Caesars salad tonight. Both well made and plentiful. Service is impeccable. Tonight was Erin, who was attentive andhelpful. We started with a nice glass of wine and a spot-on made Dirty Martini by Angela herself. The setting is wonderful inthis 1857 historic house overlooking the river. Three different dining rooms. Parking is plentiful and prices afordable. We lovethis restaurant and plan on coming back. Try it....I'm sure you'll feel the same. 3/29/22: We've been back here several timesand love it so much that we are having our wedding and reception here. We met with Angela yesterday, who has been in therestaurant and catering business for 4 decades. She is a chef and does most of the cooking herself. We can't wait for the bigday in May. She has another large room that then becomes her restaurant patron room, while we get the dining room overlookingthe river. We are having filet mignon, bourbon salmon, and a veggie lasagna dish. We chose to serve buffet style. We bookedJessica Cavender as the photographer and Will S. as the disc jockey. He's a morning drive country & western radio host, too! But, he plays whatever music you want. Folks, you must try this easy to find, and most delicious restaurant with super serviceand scenic setting. This is now our favorite! Read more
We enjoyed dinner with a cozy view of the river. Try the perfect potatoes au grautin. The fried mozzarella sticks were... delicious. The "brownie" was delicious but much more like a delicate cake that flaked and crumbled very easily. They servedSister Schubert's rolls. Love the carafes so our glasses are always full. If you order a steak, they are best at ribeyes but theother cuts were under cooked or over cooked and dry. One of the best things about this restaurant is the very interestinghistorical building. I wish we could tour the whole place. We enjoyed the view of the river and the boats. We are lookingforward to coming back for the seafood. Read more
Views of the river are beautiful, but, not nearly as beautiful, or delicious, as the food. We had the crab dip as an appetizer,... she had the crab legs, I had the crab stuffed whitefish. All of it was cooked to perfection. If you go get the house dressing onthe salad. You won't be disapointed. Read more
While the service is hit or miss, the owner takes a personal role in greeting and seeing to guests, the food we have had is... good, but not excellent. This restaurant, housed in a historical building, is unique and tries to seem classy, but when you lookclosely it?s more tacky. I have always liked my meals, but I do find it to be slightly bland and underwhelming. I think therecipes cater an older crowd, just like the decor. We?ve had a little bit of everything off the menu and it all falls just a tadshort of being excellent. The Sister Schubert rolls annoy me. I think that they should make their rolls in house and not cutcorners; but I?m a bread lover and these rolls are my least favorite. Read more
