Reviews for Redcoat Tavern in Royal Oak, MI

While visiting home, I reconnected with one of my oldest friends, MB, a Red Coat legend, at this Detroit fav. The Redcoat Burger... is a local staple and I had mine med rare with swiss and sautéed mushrooms. I also had the carribean fish chowder, which wasrobust and delicious. You can?t go wrong with their corned beef two ways or onion rings either. As a tavern-pub, it would behard to find a better craft-import bier, ale or stout selection in metro Detroit. Read more

Having heard about how great the burgers are here and living here locally my whole life, I finally got a chance to try it. While... the burger had good flavor, we had a few other issues. The onion rings were soggy on the outside and undercooked on the inside. The ?hand cut fries? were your basic frozen fries and not that great. The place is way too dark which I totally don?t get. Andthe biggest issue was the waiter deciding to ?round down? my change when I paid cash. When my friend asked about it in a verypolite, inquisitive way, his response was ?Waiters do that all the time. We round up or down depending on the bill. We?re notNBD and don?t have change laying around. I?ll go get your change? and he stormed off. It was quite shocking and unnecessary. Wedidn?t care about the $0.70 some in change he kept but just thought they should say something beforehand. (Note; we all gave hima VERY nice tip despite it) I can?t speak for my friends but I can say I won?t be back. Read more

Great food! Very dark inside, but everyone's super friendly and the food was delicious ???? Robin was actually psychic and very... kind. Split a regular burger and a brasserie burger. The regular one was juicy and flavorful. The brassierie was very earthyflavors. Can't wait to come back again! Read more

One of the better burger places that I have visited. The owners are very sociable and this restaurant has a decent selection but... could use a ribeye steak addition in my opinion. The tenderloin tips were amazing especially when dipped in the sauce they comewith. That sauce can also go on the burgers too (hint hint). The wings are bigger than normal size and although you only getlike 5 they are sizable. The Scotch egg was also a treat because I didn't know what to expect being that I've never had thatbefore. The burgers are something of wonderfulness. Very meaty and can be piled with toppings that will show you that your eyesare bigger than your stomach. The burger can be eaten by itself but if you want truffle fries, who would argue. This place has azip sauce and that zip sauce can be a game changer. Between the zip sauce and the sauce for the tenderloin appetizer, you tellme which one you like better when you leave your own review. Read more

We like bringing my in-laws here - their burgers and appetizers never fail to impress. They still have the best build-your-own... burger in the area. Plus they have a good selection of beer. If they would only make the lighting a little brighter... Read more

I had the Piedmontese hamburger and it was pretty good. My friend had muscles and he said they were excellent. Unfortunately... the onion rings were soggy and not very good at all. There is a very extensive beer list. Read more

Old family favorite tavern that's looking really beat anymore. Always a line no matter what time of day you go and for good... reason. The food is fabulous. They're known for their burgers but everything else on the menu is wonderful as well. A sign ofthe times their burger with no side is $14. Ouch. Read more
