Reviews for Bob's Shanghai 66 in Rockville, MD
I really wanted to like this place. But I may not ordered the right dishes. I ordered one mushroom noodle, one beef rice noodle... and a rice cake desert. None are up to my expectations. Before I ordered I asked the waiter if the noodles is hand made. Shesaid yes. But the noodle is just made from dry noodle, not even the frozen fresh noodle. The mushroom noodle uses cannedmushrooms, the soup base is salty even though I asked to have less salt. The soup base has no flavor other than salty. The ricenoodle is fine, but the spice is off. The beef has some oily smell to it as if it has been sitting there without fridge for awhile. No e of these main dish is authentic. I decided to give it another try by ordering the chief recommended Shanghai sweetsticky rice cake. Nope, not home made at all. These can be brought by packages from Asian grocery store. What is even worse isthat one of the cake is not even steamed enough that it is still cold and hard inside. Not sure if I should give it another try. Read more
The highly praised soup dumpling it's very second class, I feel sad about those people who take their friend to experience... authentic Chinese food. This is no way close to authentic Taiwanese food. The soup dumpling wrapping is way below average, onlythe filling is half decent. Oh all the dishes is nowhere close to where they should be, you can tell the chef is in rushed tomake those dishes, not worth the time and effort and the way for a visit Read more
The star of the show here is the soup dumplings, which are big, flavorful, and a joy to eat! I came in around 5pm on a Tuesday... as a solo diner and was seated immediately; plenty of empty tables, though there were a decent number of people by the time Ileft. I also got the salt and pepper squid, which was crisp and golden, but a little lacking in flavor: I would haveappreciated a bit more salt, and perhaps some hot peppers, as I've had with the dish elsewhere. The server was lovely, andcatered equally nicely to a variety of tables: one of visitors from Shanghai looking for a taste of home, a family who seemedunfamiliar with the menu and requested Western utensils, and my table of one. I would absolutely come again next time I'm inRockville. Side note: No star deduction because you don't come here for the toilet, but the ladies' room was pretty gross. Athorough clean, a fresh coat of paint and perhaps new tile is in order! Read more
By far the best Chinese restaurant in DMV. Their XLBs are incredible and other dumpling dishes are great too. Dan dan noodle and... fried rice were also delicious. I don?t think I ever had any bad food from here. They don?t accept any credit cards and reallybusy during the weekend dinner time. Highly recommended! Read more
The soup dumplings were kinda dry and rough on the outside. The flavor was pretty good but they definitely aren?t worth the... hype. Several of the staff lacked basic manners. The bill for my friend and I came out to a $49.59 and the employee wouldn?t letus split the bill because there was a ?$50 minimum? to split the bill. I understand that she?s not the one that created therules, but she should have offered a bit of leniency given that we were only a few cents under. Read more
This place has my favorite best flavored fried rice around. I had so many foods here and they were all delicious. The downside... is how oily the food is here. The shrimp toast which was just drenched in oil, it took me 3 paper towels to suck up the oil fromone piece. The dumpling were also so oily that it made me feel sick. While this is a yummy place to eat, it is definitely thegreasiest Chinese food around, so if you have a sensitivity to this, I do not recommended this place. Read more
My favorite place in DMV for soup dumplings!! While they are all good, my favorite one is the Crab and Pork XLB Soup Dumplings.... Spicy ?Cheng-Du? Chicken and the Spicy Wontons are delicious as well. Service is great and food comes out relatively fast, minus the soup dumplings, those take a bit of time. This place is always packed! Read more
Pretty decent dim sum. Drove up from the 757 area to try this place. Food came out hot and fresh. The xiao long bao and the cold... noodles were the highlights for me. The pan fried baozi skin was a little too thick. And the pig ears were tasteless and underseasoned. They tasted only of the chili oil that they were tossed with. Definitely willing to give it another try and try someother dishes. Read more
