In town on Thanksgiving night for some medical appointments, so pleased to find this nice little place open for a bite to eat... and a glass of wine. Tai was the sweetest server, pleasant, caring and so attentive. Tai suggested brown sauce for both of ourdishes, which was a fantastic recommendation. I am sorry to say this was the least enjoyable "Chinese food" experience I've ever had. I've had cashew chicken in many... different restaurants in many cities. This version was only composed of breaded chicken chunks, onions-- lots of fried yellowonions--and sauce. And a very few pieces of cashews. No vegetables. Everywhere else I've had this dish it was loaded with yummyvegetables and plenty of cashews. I only ate the tiny amount of pieces of cashews from this dish at this restaurant. Been a while since I last ate here, but this is one of the few Chinese restaurants in Rochester that survived lockdown and still... has dine-in options. Supper with Mom and my wife, we got the 'family dinner', one of our habits at places like this. Spicy andsour soup really hit the spot and the egg rolls and crab rangoon did a good job of whetting the appetite. Nothing fancy.. Hunanpork, almond chicken, cashew chicken, but the portions were ample for a 'family dinner' and it's always fun to share. I grew up in Rochester and have enjoyed Hunan garden my entire life. I moved away a couple years ago and upon returning for a... wedding I found that it remains excellent again. My favorites are the General Tso chicken, crab Rangoon, won ton soup, and theirsteamed rice is always perfect. Quick service and a nice atmosphere. Read more
Please either give away some of the huge living fish in the tiny aquarium or get them a bigger tank-- I'd give zero stars for... that. Absolutely depressing environment to walk in and see. As for the food: the appetizers and soup were average, but theentrees weren't good. Princess chicken and shrimp lo mein were less than average. We ate some because we were super hungry, butdidn't enjoy it. Read more
First time here and was impressed. It was really busy so it took a little bit for our meals, but the food was fresh and... delicious! My real only complaint was I asked for my plate to be extra spicy and there still wasn't enough heat for my liking.I'll be going back for another try Read more
Our food was fine nothing exceptional. Rice was good we had both white rice and fried rice. I was happy that the fried Rice... didn't have peas which almost all places have. The tea was good. The place was clean and had a cozy feeling. Staff was friendlyand nice. I did feel rushed to order though. Read more
Hunan garden is the very best Chinese restaurant in Rochester. They've lasted over 30 years because of it.
