Reviews for Gmen@NanChuu Ramen Shop in Richmond, BC
I came here recently after passing by the restaurant several times. The restaurant had interesting music, slightly different... seating setup that reminded me of Japan, and decent service. In terms of food, I tried the Shio Tonkotsu Ramen. The soup basewas more flavourful and hearty than some other places, but it felt slightly too rich near the end. The noodles were slightlythicker than I am used to but it went well with the soup base as it soaked up more of the flavour. The chashu was meaty andskinnier cuts which also complemented the stronger soup base. The black fungus was fresh and crunchy and the condiments were goodas well. Read more
I tried the peanut-based ramen (can't remember the name). It was really nice and creamy, but could use some spice! Comes with... some basic toppings, but things like eggs, bamboo shoots etc. can be extra for some dishes. The staff were very pleasant. Wewent on a weeknight, and it was not busy - we did not have to wait for a table. To note - they only take cash or debit. Read more
Gmen Ramen is a masterclass on how good ramen is done. The broth is a perfectly balance and carefully walked path of rich and... savory no matter the base you go with, carefully paired with the right ingredients. I went with their peanut and spicy base andit was perfectly balanced with its fatty flavours and hest, the savory balance of the pork and base brought out its intenseflavours. Their noodles are made onsite with expert detail. These noodles are bustin with flavour and capture your broth inevery bite. Their menu is also easy to follow for first timers as they have recommendations on where to start. The atmosphereand vibes here are also incredible, with Manga on the first shelf you see, multiple anime posters everywhere and mood settingmusic. We absolutely loved our experience and recommend you come check it out too! Read more
They have this weird policy where you have to order in advance and pay in advance before seating. I wasn?t sure if I was suppose... to tip them or not in this case but I still gave them 15%. The food was ok. Tonkatsu shio ramen was salty and the miso wasworse. Just overall really salty. I ended up putting 3 spoons of ice water into the soup to dilute it. They used to have moreizakya eats but now the menu has dwindled down too. 3 items 45 bucks. Not cheap Read more
I never post reviews, but when I had the saltiest ramen on earth I had to log in and post. The other comments about how salty... the ramen is aren?t kidding or not know how salty ramen as a dish is. IT IS A BOWL OF SALT. I didn?t believe them and I waswrong. After my first sip of the soup I wanted to ask the waiter if this is normal, I dont know why I didnt but I really shouldhave. I added half a cup of water into the tonkostu shio for it to be edible, otherwise even as a tsukemen and not drinking thesoup, it was STILL TOO SALTY. After adding the water it tasted a lot more like normal ramen but still just a regular ok ramen.Nothing special. Will not recommend and will not come back. I saw some articles about how good this place is and had high hopesfor it. Never again. Oh by the way the chicken meatballs were also so salty that I could not physically make my body eat iteven I usually never waste food. The picture shows how much chicken meatball and ramen was left. Now I see why this is a prepaidrestaurant. One star is for the karage and gyoza. Both were pleasant to eat. Zero star for the ramen and chicken meatballs.Just go somewhere else. Read more
Cute, intimate ramen spot in Richmond. We arrived here around 12:30pm and there was no line up and the food arrived quickly. We... ordered the Ebi Mayo, Porker Gyoza, RCMP & Tonkotsu Miso. All around the food was great. The pork gyoza had a nice light andfresh taste, the tonkotsu miso had a beautiful and rich broth and the RCMP had the perfect level of spiciness. The only thing wewould probably change is the dollop of mayo on the ebi mayo dish. I think if it was spread evenly on the top with a little moreflavoring, it would have been perfect - aside from that, the shrimp also tasted light and fresh! We have been here twice andboth times the customer service was on point - we'll definitely be back again. This place does get busy, as there were peoplewaiting by the time we left around 1:30pm on a Sunday, so plan accordingly! Read more
The positives here are that the broth is very rich, thick, and flavorful. The presentation is decent. Mildly overpriced for the... products you get. The restaurant was not well stocked and they appeared to be out of a lot of things including drinks and foodoptions. The food is all good but not great. Standard takoyaki, standard chicken karaage, and the ramen is above average but notexcellent. The service was average and it's a pay first and tip first before entering and getting served your food typeestablishment. Read more
