Reviews for Chef Chen's in Redwood City, CA
Always great food made when you order, if you haven't tried it your missing out!
I've been coming here since 2009. My go to is the honey walnut shrimp and Chinese chicken salad. Their food is better than... restaurants that charge twice as much. My five-star rating is based strictly on the quality, taste and value of the food. Read more
I'm surprised this place has 4.2 stars. I had the Hunan beef, sweet & sour chicken, salt pepper prawns, and vegetable fried... rice. The beef lacked salt and tasted rubbery. The chicken tasted raw/uncooked, also lacked salt, and the sauce was more sweetthan sour. The prawns - I get it, I ordered salt and pepper prawns. But it tasted as if whatever salt was lacking in the otherdishes, they added all in this one. The fired rice was hardly that. It just looked sad - no flavor, color, and not enoughveggies or egg. Now I'm sitting at home, drinking ginger ale because I have an upset stomach Read more
Chef Chen's is this hidden gem of a place. While it doesn't look like much, it's quite simply some of the best Cantonese I've... ever had. Their tomato beef is amazing and their mango beef is delicious. Everything they serve is cooked well and has wonderfulflavours. Read more
I've been ordering from Chef Chen's for years and the quality of the food is always good. The portions are generous too. On... occasion, I try other Chinese restaurants in the area because of suggestions, reviews, or observing lines out the door, but thisplace always beats them; hands down. Whenever I order in and friends or family are over, they like the food so much, they askwhere I ordered. Tasty, fresh and satisfying. Read more
Ist a nice place to grab some good Chinese food. Just passing through and this place cought my eye.Very polite people.
Quick and satisfying! I went for lunch here today. Some lunch specials are only $5. Since the prices were so reasonable, I... decided to splurge and get the Combination Seafood Lunch Plate. $6.75 plus tax ($7.40 total) for shrimp, fish, scallops, etc. Itwas a generous serving of food which also comes with your choice of rice, appetizer, and soup (if you eat in the restaurant).Quality of the food was quite good, and not greasy at all. I think what was amazing was how quickly the food is prepared. Youorder, pay and within 3-5 minutes it's ready. While I was eating, take out orders and other patrons had their food also in a fewminutes. Seriously, even if you had a takeout order, there's no need to call ahead. Summary: If you need a quick lunch placethat is very reasonably priced with good quality, come to Chef Chen's. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other menuitems. And yes, they take credit card too. Read more
They must of gotten new owners; the meat and fish dishes lack meat or fish now. The Mango or Papaya Beef was mostly fruit. The... Walnut Chicken must of been old for them to literally add mayonnaise to top it off. I took both dishes back. I ordered comboChow Mein that had sparse meat in it. I ordered the Seafood and veggies, but it was all veggies. I haven't gone back since. Myroommate and I use to go there when we wanted Chinese food since it is so close to where we live. Not anymore since ownershipchanged; something changed! Read more
