Reading PA Institution, the famous peanut bar where roasted in the shell peanuts are offered free for all patrons, and shells... discarded on the floor, have in recent years buys their menu and taken on a Prohibition theme, since they had many priorlocations during those years when they were a bit of a speakeasy. Award-winning wings delicious salads, much American Fare, however they no longer serve an old favorite of mine the Middle Eastern platter. Still, it was a fantastic dining experience, and they even have some cocktail suggestions which have a Prohibition theme. History of Reading and Berks and the peanut baritself displayed on the video screens where television is not displayed. Portraits of Jimmy and Annie Kramer and more recentowners also prominently featured. Famous and quality restaurant with a near 100-year history. Read more

Service was not good. The food was average at best. The crab cake had my dates stomach a little messed up to be honest. I asked... for my steak to be med-rare and it came out rare and cold. Honestly, I don't plan on going back again. I feel bad because itused to be a good restaurant/bar to eat and drink at, I'm unsure of what happened and when it happened. Read more

One of the best experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. We came for a graduation celebration and were greeted with custom... menus with the graduate's name. Sabrina brought such a sense of joy and passion to our table, and her recommendations were spoton for every course. The food coming out of the kitchen was easily a bright star in the Reading area, with each dish coming outperfectly. From wiener schnitzel to seared ahi tuna, there was not a disappointing bite throughout the meal. Desserts were aperfect complement to our entrees, and the touch of having the graduate's name written in chocolate was the attention to detailyou rarely see these days. It's very easy to see why this restaurant has been around for 98 years, and I wouldn't be surprisedto see it around for another 98. Read more

One Warm Welcome...not from the area, found this place open on a Monday night. I had no idea of its history or anything about... the place. A timeless feel to the interior, warm wood character & 50s charm, I could feel this place had a lot of history butdidn't realize a Reading PA celebrated legend. The bartender/owner & my Server we're kind, accommodating and veryinformative...a slower night. Served up with their menu with a narrative on the history of the establishment "in a nutshell".The menu offered a nice variety from Seafood, Italian, German, Steaks, Burgers and much more. Seems like a Hot Spot with plentygoing on, warm vibes, great peeps & good food to serve up for generations to come! Read more

Went to the Peanut Bar for my birthday celebration. The atmosphere is inviting (love the twinkle lights in the branches on the... ceiling). The food was delicious. I had the crab cakes with broccoli and baked potato. The crab cake was cooked to perfectionwith a lemony hollandaise sauce, and the sides were excellent as well. It came with a good sized salad which was yummy, too. Allin all, the meal was memorable and we will definitely return to the Peanut Bar! Read more

The Peanut Bar has been operating at his location since 1935 and I can see why it has lasted. Great food, superb service and... great character. Don't be put off by the windowless frontage, it is well work coming in and taking a seat at a table covered ina traditional checkered cloth and enjoying a mix of old style and modern dishes. Read more
