The #1 Credo was not exercised last night. Now to be fair it was 8:30 pm when we arrived. There was no one in the restaurant... except for the server and the cook. The menu is overwhelming! There's no easy way to say it. It's kind of pricey to be a"diner!" There are way too many options to choose from. As first timers, I ordered the fish and chips and the hubster is orderedthe chicken fried steak. Our food was prepared exactly the way we like it. Good....Good..Good!!!! The portion was enough towhere I will have leftovers for lunch today. There was one concerning thing I noticed. There was a young boy (probably no olderthan 10) that was sitting at the counter. He was playing with his toy. He was occasionally loud! Now I understand that timesare hard and babysitters are not easy to come by, however, he should not have been over there playing next to the kitchen. Iconsidered it as unsanitary! As for our server, he was knowledgeable about the menu and able to answer our questions (despitethe noisy kid playing in the restaurant), as well as make suggestions on the menu items. Read more
Nice place to eat at. last time I was here it was 2016 lol. I got the original French toast but ordered the stuffed blueberry... french toast. The same price probably just as good wasn't that big of a deal for me. Thanks ???? Read more
Quality diner food with a charming atmosphere that will for sure fill you up. The biggest shock to me when I moved to California... after growing up in Oklahoma, was that diners and diner food was held in higher regard out here. Where i came from, diner foodis an easy staple that you for sure can find in any tiny town. Greasy spoon fare isn't something that will win you any awards, but it's good and filling. It was everywhere where I grew up. When I moved to the land of avacados and burritos, it's one of thefirst thing I noticed is that diner type food is special to the people out here. It's not on every corner, so they appreciate itand celebrate the type of food. So when I see diners with great reviews, I must admit, I immediately take it with a grain ofsalt. This is the type of food I've had most of my life and it takes a lot to impress me. Black Bear Diner fits right into thismold. Charming setup that looks like an expanded diner filled with busy waitresses smiling and slinging food and plates allover. The food is greasy, tasty and filling and there's a ton to choose from. We didn't have anything we didn't like, but thefood fell right into the category of what's to be expected. The staff looked shorthanded and they all were super nice andprofessional. We waited a bit, but didn't bother us in the slightest because when we were helped, they made us feel at home. Theonly food that stood out to me was the chicken fried steak. It tasted very similar to how I had it back home and that's not aneasy feat. You didn't even need a knife to cut it. I'm a little jaded when it comes to diners, but I had so many recommendationsof this place that I had to try it. The food is great, the staff is fantastic and the place is warm and welcoming. If you enjoydiners, you'll most assuredly love this place. If your like me and grew up on this kind of stuff, it's a good place to scratchup some old memories with food that will definitely trigger some nostalgia. Read more
The entrance to the restaurant has a sign asking for patience as they hire staff and deal with the current challenges. That... being said, the food was decent. My waffle was tasty and thick, the eggs were fluffy, and the bacon was crispy. My son's cubcake was cute and fluffy. His hot chocolate came piled high with whipped cream. Hubby's omelet was delicious. The hash brownswere not very crispy but they were okay and the portions were sized generously. He said the biscuits and gravy were good, too. Just a few issues - the limited staff made for slow service. I had to ask for refills on the coffee, which tasted watereddown. The decor is meant to be kitschy but it seemed dated. The prices were not great but the portions made it a good value. Read more

The food is delicious and the service was excellent. My only issue is that for a breakfast I do not see good reason to spend the... amount of money that I did here. Denny's, IHOP, and Cracker Barrel all offer similarly great tasting food at a fraction of thecost. Worth a one time splurge visit, but not a regular or necessary stop in my opinion. Read more
