The food and the wine paired with it were excellent, as was the service. I highly recommend dining here. The chef does a great... job of combining two very different cuisines! Read more

PHENOMENAL experience. Went there for restaurant week- couldn?t have been better. The mozzarella garlic bread combo bought tears... to my eyes. The fried chicken is perfect, but my god- the cheesecake. It?s inspiring. The service was excellent, the owners areso kind. I can?t wait to become a regular. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation ASAP! Read more

Overall, I enjoyed the food and experience. Mostly hits with one miss, and surprisingly, that miss was the one thing everyone... has been talking about! First, I love love love both Italian and Japanese food, so the integration of the two flavors of thesecuisines is very intriguing. I freaking adored the gnocchi dish, and will return for that alone. The seafood gyoza was reallygood, and my only recommendation for that dish is the sauce should be a little thicker to stick to the gyoza better, as it wassuper flavorful. The starter popcorn was a nice touch and very zesty. The wine selection was nice and I appreciated being ableto sample before deciding. Now the miss. The chicken parm ramen just did not live up to the hype. The broth had no flavor exceptmaybe a metallic char undertone. The arugula was too bitter for this dish. The chicken was cooked very well, though. I wouldjust expect a touch of acid to the broth (and maybe some salt) to bump up the flavor and balance the arugula'sbitterness. Still, as I said, I will return, and hope this place continues to do well with such an interesting concept. Read more

I was intrigued to checkout this restaurant for their fusion concept for restaurant week, though the meal was just decent. When... walking into the restaurant, there?s no hostess stand or sign or anyone at the front so you?re just standing there wondering ifthis is like a Subway style ordering system? After being seated, our server was very nice and attentive. Upon finishing themeal, only the appetizer (fresh mozzarella) and dessert, were things to write home about. I like the idea of the restaurant, butthe entrees are fairly boring and uneventful for the prices they charge. Will most likely not be back. Read more

So excited for Chef Cuomo?s first venture on his own. We traveled down from Brooklyn and after a year of having amazing meals in... NYC, LA, Portland, Chicago ? our meal this past Saturday at Papa Shogun was probably the most memorable of 2018. The food was(first and foremost) DELICIOUS. The menu is creative, with every single dish well thought out and combining an innovativecombination of quality ingredients and flavors. I was with a large party and was able to try pretty much everything on the menuand would return to order any one of them again. The fresh pulled mozzarella with togarashi is my new favorite thing to eat, thekombu gnocchi is out of this world, the ?scarole and beans with soba noodles literally made me rethink my childhood and thebeets siciliana is citrusy and bright. I would highly recommend Papa Shogun to anyone looking for an amazing meal inRaleigh/Durham. Don?t leave without trying the desserts!! Read more
