I love me some K&W!!! I am so thankful there?s one left in the Raleigh area. The food is always fresh and hot. The staff is... super friendly and helpful. The food tastes great. I love it here! Read more
I used to love this place when Mr. Harry owned it. Unfortunately, I was severely disappointed with the food today when I went.... They were out of country style steak AND mashed potatoes, so I got the turkey with dressing and gravy, broccoli with cheese andMac n' Cheese instead. Both of the sides were really cold and the cheese on the broccoli did NOT taste like cheese at all. Theturkey and gravy was ok, but the dressing tasted like plain cornbread. The egg custard pie was ok, but it tasted like the recipemay have changed. The price of the food was outrageously expensive. $2.99 for just a sweet tea! Read more
K& W was on point with the taste and quality of all their meals when the other K & W closed in Cameron Village, but now some of... the food is cold on the Line. What is going on? Today was the second time I received cold Turkey. I sent it back but the newTurkey was hot and the dark meat tasted burned. I didn't try to send it back again. Please check the temperature of your meats. Read more
I go for the pies, which are made from scratch in-house, and are very reasonably priced. The food overall is quite tasty, if you... like down home comfort food. If anyone doesn't like that kind of food, YOU'RE the problem. The only bad thing about this placeis the atmosphere. It's actually quite depressing. It looks so old and drab. I get that the older crowd frequents this place, but it looks like a senior citizen home. The decor looks like it hasn't changed since the 1960's. I like looking at the menufrom 1920 hanging on the wall, but the rest of the place doesn't have to look like it's stuck in 1920. The founder's picturehangs on the wall, and it gives country club vibes, which can be good or bad for reasons I don't have time to examine here. Formore, see Twitter. The point is I feel old whenever I walk inside this place, which is why I like to get my food take-out, andeat it somewhere more vibrant. Don't get me wrong, the food is great, but the ambience is giving nursing home full of dyingelderly vibes. Read more
I have such nostalgia for K&W that every time I head back down south I have to have it. Similar southern fare in NYC is four... times the price and a quarter as good. This is the one local relic I hope newcomers to the Triangle will 'discover', so that itsticks around! Ever since the K&W locations in Chapel Hill (the absolute best in NC) and Cameron Village closed, this is thelocation I go to. It's tucked away beside a shuttered shopping mall--but there's a reason it's open, when nothing else is. Theafter-church old folks crowd loves this homey, no-frills budget food chain, and so do I. Go on a Sunday afternoon to enjoy thecrowd and people-watch, or on a weekday if you prefer quiet. A lot of items' quality may depend on the day and the batch--butthat's why you use your eyes when you slide your tray down the line. Did a new tray of broccoli just arrive, fresh and steaming?Get that with the cheese sauce. I especially recommend the mac & cheese, the turkey with stuffing, the roast beef, and thecoconut pies. Whatever they have fried--okra, squash, mushrooms--get that, too. Love the dinner rolls, especially if you get onewhen they're hot from the oven, remember when they were 10c? When you're done, take your ticket to the exit counter andpay. Be sure to bring some cash to leave on the table as a tip for your waiter. Read more
the food was cold and even when it wasn?t it still didn?t taste very good. my spaghetti tasted like straight up ketchup. the... staff was very rude and weren?t good at listening. we also saw multiple roaches and when we told staff they admitted that theexterminator comes once a week. we were surprised by how calm they were with the situation. we didn?t even get to eat any outand didn?t want to either. we won?t be returning. Happy I tried this community staple but unfortunately wouldn?t go back. Service and prices were great but the food wasn?t... flavorful. Read more
I used to love this place growing up. I haven't been to one in over 20 years. We decided to come back for Thanksgiving. The food... is as I remember it - wonderful. The staff was (mostly) very friendly. However, the building could use a lot of TLC. The airvents were moldy, some of the walls needed to be cleaned, and the bathrooms were a bit dark and not very clean. Some of the foodhandlers were not wearing gloves or hair nets, and I saw a large bug of some sort crawl up the kitchen wall. I'm not agermaphobe, so I'll probably be back, but I do notice when things should be up to some stadards. Read more
