Reviews for Whelan's Irish Pub in Portland, OR
My issue is with the manager on duty, as I recieved a refund + credit from door dash. I never recieved food so this review... doesn't reflect that. Long story short, the manager didn't actually listen and seemed dishonest. It's probably best to avoidordering door dash from here. The long story is below. I ordered door dash and the order was taking awhile to be confirmed soI tried calling the restaurant after 40 minutes and couldn't get an answer. Around that time, I had a door dash driver arrive atthe restaurant and he told me the restaurant informed him they didn't have the order. He left and my next dasher arrived 10minutes later and said it would be another 10 minutes until my order was ready. At that point, I tried a few more times to getahold of them and finally did. I was politely informed they were hosting an event and were busier then expected and I informedthem I wasn't trying to complain, I was just considering canceling because it had been too long. Trying to help, the person whoanswered the call put me on with the manager.(Jeremy or Jason, can't remember the name) The manager assured me my food wasready and told me the driver had communicated with him and left to wait in her car for the food. I tried to say according tothe app the 2nd dasher had abandoned the order, but he cut me off and told me she was just having trouble parking, that she had"just tried calling", told me all was good, and rushed me off the phone. After 5 minutes and still not having a new driver forthe order and no second driver according to the app, I called back and asked for the same manager i had just spoken with. Thebartender kindly connected me with the same manager who I assume lied, and told me they were " literally handing the lady myorder" (2nd driver). Since the manager had said it went out so I waited a little longer. I tried calling 20 minutes laterafter no change on door dash app and nobody answered. I canceled the order on door dash and got a f Read more
This is one of the best restaurants in Portland. Diamond in the rough for sure. Just some good Irish home cooking. They do... everything fresh and everything is made from scratch. Even their ranch and blue cheese. Something I have never seen at any otherrestaurant in Portland. Read more

Charming little spots if you're down for locals and TV's playing sports. They've got a real copper bar and the burgers are... excellent. The shepherds pie is basic and rich, and the Guinness (pictured) is served perfectly. Read more
I'm sitting around with some friends, all talking about how good this place is, so I'm giving it a four-star review and we're... leaving right now to go there. I already know my wife and I will be ordering shepherds pie and a Reuben. I'll update thisreview when we're done, but based on the feedback of others around me, it's very good, especially for the neighborhood. Postdinner update: Wow. I couldn't have been more impressed. Freat service by a husband and wofe bar team and excellent food. Housecured corned beef for the reuben, homemade bleu cheese dressing on the salad, and as good a mac and cheese as Ive ever had. Igot the one woth jalapeños and bacon, but I heard the buffalo chicken version is great too. Upgraded to five stars. Highlyrecommended. Read more

Very awesome food. My boyfriend and I had the shepherd's pie, which tasted delicious and was very hearty. It was served pretty... quickly as well. Everyone around the restaurant had great things to say about the menu. We ate on the patio, which was quitedirty, but at least a lot less crowded than the bar. The bar cat JJ is adorable and friendly, well-known by the regulars. Therewere a bit too many people for my liking as an introvert, but I'd definitely come back for the food. Read more
