Reviews for Umami Café at Portland Japanese Garden in Portland, OR
Stopped by here on our visit to the Japanese gardens. Was a little disappointed by the selection and snack options. Also, the... one minute timer only took 45 seconds to run. The music selection needs improving as well - there?s a 7 second music loop onrepeat. Read more
Great vibe, great service, long wait if you aren?t prepared. I flew in earlier in the day and had some time to kill before I... could check in at my place, so I checked out the Japanese garden. Beautiful place, very well kept. As an avid tea drinker, seeing a tea place instantly hooked me! I didn?t realize you need reservations, but I was luckily able to get in real quickthanks to the wonderful service. The tea is fantastic! Very authentic. Expensive if you get the packages deals. Would be aperfect date spot if I lived in the area! Read more
Really good tea, everything else was pretty okay! Amazing ambiance makes this place totally worthwhile to me!
1 word- Mochi ????????????. Lovely little spot. You need proof of vaccination so make sure you have your card or a photo! price... is pretty reasonable for such a pleasant experience. The website says they close at 4 pm, but they actually close at 5! Read more
I've been to Japan, including teahoused where I've had matcha, and this was the next best thing to a trip to Japan--it was all... very authentic and tasty. Our server was extremely nice and I'm so happy that such a gem exists outside of Japan--it was balmfor my soul since I deeply miss Japan. Read more
Very upscale and authentic experience that is great for the price. Umami allows you to relax and enjoy the cafe and scenery... while sipping on 3 rounds of tea steeping. I would recommend this and the Japanese garden to anyone visiting PDX. Read more
Interior is simple and clean with an interesting design aesthetic on the ceiling. Reservation system makes it a breeze to get... seated. Service was nice and attentive. Tea sets are nicely paired, albeit the pastries could be improved by warming to roomtemperature instead of being served cold. Overall 5/5 especially on a cold day and at the end of touring the gardens. Also, sawa 1-star review that was pretty much the most American ideology (i.e. insulting) and I would be mortified whether I was a fellowpatron or staff if this sort of customer came into the establishment. Don't be that person. (Last photo for reference to thereview) Read more
My boyfriend and I made a reservation for this café to stop by at during our visit to the park, and I'm very glad we did! The... tea and snacks were delicious, the miso was nice and hearty and the waiters were attentive without being pushy. I'd especiallyrecommend the iced mecha and the Flight of Three mochi ice cream! They even cut the mochi in half for us to make it easier toshare! ???? Can't wait to go back! ???? Read more
