We thought we'd try somewhere new but we regret it!! The live music was very good and the service was okay. The food was... downright bad. They brought the wrong sides for both of us. Everything was SO salty. I got the fried chicken and expected atleast a couple pieces of meat but got only one. Sadly that was the only decent part of the meal. The cheesy potatoes wereextremely salty and otherwise flavorless, the Mac and cheese was grainy and bland and the corn bread was cold and dense. Jiffyis better! My partner had brisket and pulled pork that was so salty he couldn't eat it. It also didn't look like the menu photoat all -- no bread or pickles on the plate. I rarely leave anything on my plate but this food was inedible. I also ordered a"southern punch" cocktail that I'm not convinced had any bourbon in it. I couldn't even drink it. It was so overly fake andsweet. Overall a huge letdown and extremely overpriced for the quality and quantity of food. Especially considering we hardlyate any of it. Read more

Food quality is very low. My food was about the saltiest thing I have ever eaten. The price to portion made no sense, quite... expensive for what you get. The cornbread was burnt. My wife's salad had some very brown lettuce on it. Service is super slow, one person doing all the work, the other two are moping around, this makes it slow. The poor person that works with these lazyco-workers, should work somewhere else where they have good teammates. Read more

Only had apps and drinks but both were good. Decent prices. Good service. Server was quick to fix an issue with our order.... Prices are good. Live music was entertaining , a bit loud given the restaurant was half full, but fun nonetheless. Parking is apain. Read more

This place used to have more than decent food. I'd enjoyed it for years. But they changed their recipe on a number of items and... now it's not nearly as good. Everything now has way too much salt. Also, their portions are smaller, and the prices went up.Finally, their online posted hours do not matter; they close when they feel like it. I tried to get to-go service 15 minutesbefore they were supposed to be closed, and the manager was extremely apathetic that I was trying to hold them to their ownstandards. It's as if the whole place is trying to shutter. Oh well. Thanks for the good memories; it was fun while it lasted. Read more

I should have known by the low number of patrons for Sunday brunch but I tried it anyway. Service by Chancellor was very... lackluster and left us without a server for long periods of time. The barbecue here is mediocre at best and although it claimsto be applewood smoked it tasted of propane and creosote. The pulled pork was alternately it layers of that and dried out meatthat was hard to swallow. The brisket was like wise fatty and it not been cooked in such a way to render that fat to an edibleconsistency. The ribs were dry. The one bright spot was the keilbasa sausage which was quite tasty. We tried a bloody maryflight which came with no garnish and was quite disappointing. They do have quite a large variety of whiskey and if that is whatyou're after I'm sure it's a nice place to stop but, if you are looking for good food, continue searching. The attached photowas a $40 plate of barbecue and look more like something I would get at the fair for $18. Read more

Southland Whiskey is a good spot for BBQ. The pulled pork is very tasty. We had it on the smothered fries, which also came with... delicious coleslaw, bbq sauce & pickles. The roasted artichoke was odd but flavorful. You get two huge whole artichokes. For ourmain course we had the Nashville chicken tenders and waffle (the waffle was a $4 add on & you only got half a waffle, which wasnot $4 good). The chicken was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately the rest of the dish was nothing special. We also had the Bourbonroasted salmon. This was a delicious entree! The salmon was amazing, the garlic mashed potatoes were great, & the roastedbrussel sprouts were also very tasty! I'll be back to try more of the BBQ meats and sides! Read more

Nice food and drinks! Food could be a bit warmer and potatoes and Mac n cheese could use more cheese sauce. Service was fast and... attentive. The atmosphere is also charming and cozy. Closing hours seem to be variable though so check ahead of time. Read more

While being fairly new to the area and searching for a place to be a regular at, Southland was my first stop, and... coincidentally, my last stop. From excellent food, personable and welcoming staff, to an atmosphere that I find unrivaled in thearea, this place is my go to and has rapidly evolved into a second home. I find myself sharing filling meals with friends, having great conversations with staff, finding a muse for writing in solitude, and expanding my self proclaimed talent as awhiskey aficionado. Some of the best selection anywhere in Portland. If you're looking for a quick bite, or a long evening ingood company, look no farther. Read more
