I woke up this morning and said ?I really want waffles? so Smaaken is where we went. Person behind us in line got their order... before we did (we didn?t order a lot, just two sandwiches and two coffees). That was fine, but then we didn?t get our secondcoffee and had to ask for it. They had loud music playing so maybe that part of the order wasn?t heard. The sandwiches weresubpar. My partner enjoyed her monte cristo but my dutch baby had way too much whipped cream that I ended up scooping off. Wegot a lime aioli to go with the fries and it mostly just tasted like lime and nothing else. The fries were good on their ownthough. Overall just wasn?t that great, we probably wouldn?t go back. However there are tons of other food carts here withoptions that would?ve probably been better had they been open when we arrived. Read more

I can't wait to come back here - I was craving something sweet so took my husband here for a treat. We got the chocolate/whipped... cream/strawberry jam waffle and it was big enough for the both of us. We ended up taking it home and didn't eat it right away, was still amazing. Their menu sounded so good, I can't wait to come back for savory! Read more

This is one of my favorite food trucks ever because waffles plus gluten free, number one. But then their combos are absolutely... off the charts delish, and all the servers have the best energy to top it off. I had a savory sandwich once, which wassomething like a Monte Cristo with goat cheese and arugula, and it was yummers, a perfectly crispy and tasty high end Sammy. Butprimarily what I go there for is a cross between the Coconana and Almond Joyous. This is banana, toasted almonds, chocolateganache and coconut whipped cream. Did I say, on a gulten-free waffle?!?!! Here are some visuals. They not only don't mindmeeting my special requests, but seem to rejoice in them. Oh so much ???? love for Smaaken. Finally they offer Blue Lotus Chaiwith your favorite milk and sweet or unsweet options. This truck sits in the Hawthorn Asylum, which is also my favorite foodtruck park, with a number of other excellent food trucks to make all groups happy and a great variety of seating options, manycovered and with gas heating to circle around. Smaake is located in the Hawthorne region downtown inside of a walled off community of food vendors. The atmosphere here is.... Very welcoming and inclusive, though can get crowded based on location and the great experience. The food is a pretty creativetake on comfort breakfast foods and standard American fare. Due to it's popularity it can take a little longer for your food tobe prepared, but it's well worth the wait. I would use this time to explore what else the food court has to offer or just hangby the available fire pits. There is some construction going on due to expansion inside the court, but it shouldn't interferewith your meal too much. Because this is located downtown, parking can be at a premium so plan accordingly. I recommend publictransportation, or biking if possible. Read more

Overrated. The food was only so-so. There was zero parking and we had to drive for miles to find somewhere to park. Someone... recommended this place to us and I just felt myself frustrated and how crammed in everything felt. I get that it's down town soit's going to be busier and crowded, but the whole atmosphere and experience was simply not worth it. I definitely think theymissed a golden opportunity to have "Chicken and Waffles" Read more
