Service was great! The staff were super friendly and happy to help us out. The food portions were a little small. The rolls... were tasty, but getting the spicy poke don was a little disappointing. It wasn't a lot of food for what we paid for. This placeseems more like a fancier sushi place than to get a couple of cheap rolls. It was still good though! Read more

My first try at this restaurant. I heard this restaurant has been here from at least 12 years ago. Food was good, with regular... Japanese restaurants line ups. They have many seatings and it was larger than it appears from outside. Service was great too. Ihave to return here to try many other dishes. Read more

OMG what a fantastic restaurant. The best Japanese meal I have ever eaten. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The... restaurant was busy but not noisy. The staff were friendly, helpful attentive and respectful. The concept of eating on a chairwith no legs and my shoes elsewhere was a novelty but not discomforting. If you are looking for somewhere to eat then look nofurther. I will definitely return before I leave Portland. Thank you for a fantastic experience. Read more

Came for Saturday lunch and the place was so packed that we had a 30min wait time. There are no online reservations so you have... to show up in person to put down your name/cell. Their hours are a bit misleading as their lunch hours close up at 3pm andreopen later for dinner at 6pm. We used the idle time to visit the Portland Art Museum around the corner. We were called backon time. There were different types of seating available. We were seated by the front windows where you take your shoes off butyou sit on a chair with no legs, but you can bend your legs under the table, but it's still short so maybe uncomfortable if youare taller than 5.5ft ???? For an izakaya place, the menu had limited savory snack foods that go well with alcoholic drinkscompared to the larger variety in the other menu categories. This was perfectly fine since we were hungry and looking for normalsized portions like their noodle and rice dishes. We went with their special garlic ramen bowl (Kumamoto Ramen) and thebroth-less ramen bowl (Shio-Abu ramen). Both were satisfyingly good and would recommend. Neither of these came with bambooshoots so I'll have to remember to read the menu closely and ask to add it next time. Due to the pandemic, they're veryunderstaffed so don't expect too much customer service. It's suggested to put in your entire order at once as there will be along wait time if you add additional orders later. If you are short on time, you will need to flag down a waiter asap to gettheir attention. Read more

Food was amazing!! It was very traditional. There was only one chef making all the food, the quality was worth the wait!... Atmosphere was nice. Don't forget to bang the drum for good luck. Read more

A beautiful restaurant with traditional seating or modern tables. If you choose the traditional seats you get a raised platform... to take off your shoes and store them. You get a floor seat that is on a small ledge so you still get a bit of a room to letyour legs hang without having to cross them fully. The food is delicious and is wonderfully complimented by the atmosphere. WhenI went it was a one man kitchen staff so be prepared for a wait if you don't arrive right at opening of the dinner time. Also besure to give the drum a couple of bangs for good luck on the way in or out. Read more

So amazing, can't recommend it enough. Come prepared to wait for an hour or so, since the only chef cooks everything fresh to... order. We waited on the left with drinks as the staff is very attentive. Once we were moved to our table, food was servedquickly. One of the best Japanese restaurants we've been to outside of Japan. The interior architecture is in a traditionalJapanese style, and there are private rooms with sh?ji doors and tatami floors which may need a special reservation. Read more
