Reviews for Shandong Restaurant in Portland, OR
Where?s the shrimp? Normally I love ShanDong and have for years and would give it 5 stars plus for flavor, portions and quality.... However, today I?m disappointed to find only four small shrimp in the large quantity of shrimp soup. If I had know it was mostlybroth and an abundance of vegetables (with is great), I would have ordered a different shrimp dish as it?s shrimp I wantedmostly today. You would think shrimp soup would fit the bill. Not so much. Parking sucks for this restaurant too especially ifdisabled. Read more
There are some real winners on this menu combine traditional and American styles Chinese food. The dry fry wings are... incredible! Other highlights for us are the Shandong Beef and dumplings. The dumplings were so good we ate them before we couldtake a picture. Service is quick, plenty of beers available. This is a repeat visit spot for us Read more
Got Mongolian Beef, Cherry Pork, Dry Cooked Green Beans and Pork Fried Rice. The food was great. The difficulty was in... placing the order. I called and was asked to hold, after seven minutes of listening to background noise they hung up. After Icalled back they took the order and our food was ready in ten minutes. Read more
It has been a few years since I eaten at Shandong. I was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was as good as I remembered... it. Prices are still reasonable and service is decent. Both the pork belly fried rice and the chicken noodle soup weredelicious. The fried rice had a decent amount of pork fried with a few veggies and a bit of egg. The .noodle soup was filledwith home made noodles and had shitake caps , chicken and a few veggies in it as well. We ended up taking about half of theportion home. Recommended Read more
Had the Ma Po Tofu, seen below. Sauce tasted good. A tad spicy but not much. I would have preferred more veggies in place of... rice but that?s just me and most people probably want the rice (there were delicious peas and mushrooms in it). Lots of goodoptions on the menu and the waiter had a lot of good advice. I?m looking forward to trying their other dishes. Lots of goodvegan options and I?d like to try the hand pulled noodles. My husband and I LOVE Shandong. We did takeout several times before Covid restrictions were lifted, but were really excited... when the dining room opened again a few weeks ago. We also took a friend on our recent visit and she had never beenbefore. Parking can be a bit tricky here, especially if the restaurant is busy. DON'T park in the lot next door as that doesnot belong to Shandong's and your car will get towed! I don't think the word is out yet that they're open for dining inside andsince we were there a bit early, we were set. Like many Chinese restaurants, there are SO MANY OPTIONS!! We started off withappetizers; xiao long bao, dumplings and 2 orders of happy hour wontons. We did the pork kind AND the crab. These are some ofmy favorite wontons ever, mostly because they have meat. Many (especially cheap) places don't fill the wontons. Xiao Long Baoare pretty good and larger than others I've had. For entrees, we had grilled eggplant with chicken, beef and broccoli, porkbelly fried rice and chicken and snow peas. Everything was so delicious! The beef and broccoli is my favorite anywhere;flavorful and tender. I feel happy and loved when I eat it. My husband always loves the grilled eggplant and can't ever getenough. The other dishes were also great, my friend especially raving about the crunchy snowpeas and the delicious pork belly. We weren't drinking this time around, but they also offer great cocktails. Good location with ample parking. The place is clean and the food made with care with and a flavor-style that tastes truly... homemade. All dishes had distinctive flavors and the presentation was straight forward. I did not taste MSG. Service wasattentive and the bar nicely stocked. Pricing is fair and quality very good. I will certainly be back for more. Read more
Pretty good overall. Food was fresh and hot. The soup dumplings were very tasty and fresh. The southern style fried rice tasty... as well. It was nice you could choose between soy sauce based or sea salt seasoned fried rice. I think that's a unique option tooffer. Lemon chicken was ok not my favorite but decent overall. Restaurant was very clean with was nice to see. Definitely willbe back to try more items. Read more
