Reviews for Picnic House in Portland, OR
Simple and really delicious food in a very nice setting that looks like they're going for a 20's World Fair theme. Everything we... ordered was quite tasty: hanger steak, delicata squash salad, and butternut squash risotto. Service was on point andunintrusive. We also tried a cocktail, the Seelbach, but thought it was just ok. Overall an excellent spot for a nice, quietdinner with an unusual but very cool vibe. Read more
Had lunch here today. It was a very quaint little spot with a nice ambiance. Service was pretty good. Food was pretty good but... not great. I did the lunch option with 1/2 a salad, 1/2 a sandwich, and a cup of soup. The grilled cheese sandwich I got hadgood flavor but wasn’t a big win overall because of the cheese to bread ratio being off. There was too much bread and toolittle cheese. My salad was very good and the soup was ok- not bad, but nothing special either. My salad was probably myfavorite thing on the plate. Nothing on the menu stuck out to me to where I’d come back to try this place again. Read more
The food and atmosphere are both unique and fun. Although the menu is not extensive, everything we tried was delicious. My... husband and I did the "Have a Picnic" special and shared a soup, the apple turkey sandwich, and the vegetable gnocchi - allhighly recommended! Michael, our server, was very accommodating to my food allergies and answered all our questions. He evenmade notes of my allergies for the staff preparing our meal, and then chatted with us about the history of the restaurant space. This is a great dinner stop for out of town visitors or locals! Found this place by accident(last summer), thank god I did. I came in not to long before closing and right off the bat i fell in... love with the atmosphere. Decor and the array of lights was very inviting. Sat at the bar, and was greeted by one badassbartender. Just watching him do work made me ready to enjoy my visit. He made me a upcoming cocktails off a later menu and itwas perfect. Had the lamb chops, with mint cliantro jelly, a baked potato and a gorgonzola salad. Definitely was the perfectmeal. I'll definitely keep this as my go to place everytime I come back to Portland! Read more
Visited this wonderful place around the corner from Hilton Hotel as I was visiting the city for the first time. Michael was our... server and he was the best EVER. Funny, witty, sarcastic and a delight. LOVED the tomatoe soup. Went back the next day foranother cup. I do wish they had bowls as the cup was not enough. Lol Read more
I adore the picnic house. The quality of the food is always excellent and I love their changing menu. I'm not a big fan of the... entrees and sides being ala carte, however. I think the picnic style choice is good for salads, soups, and sandwiches, but Ipreferred previous menus where entrees had set, complimentary side items. The choice is nice, but ultimately the chef is goingto know the best food pairings, not me. Read more
Love the feel of this place! The decor is really neat and an easy conversation piece. My sister and I got the pick 2 lunch... special, and we both were extremely happy with our meals. Phillip was our waiter, and he was friendly and attentive to ourtable. Check comes in a book instead of a folder, really unique spot! For downtown Portland the prices were reasonable and Ileft full. Update: went for dinner this time with family. Picnic burger and salad with mixed berries was great. Service seemsto be a bit hit or miss considering our server paid us little to no attention. Another waitress checked on us and did more forour table than the actual waiter we were assigned. Prices for dinner seemed a bit steep. Read more
Perfect lunch spot and great area for a casual business meeting! Definitely seems like a popular area for lunch downtown. I went... here for a business meeting. We had placed a reservation because of how busy it would be. It is a very unique and authenticspot. It used to be a hotel back in the day and they have kept a lot of the old architecture which was cool. The menu provided awonderful selection and options of soups, salads and sandwiches. They have a lunch special where you can do half & half of each.I had the Italian and the soup of the day. Delicious. In my opinion it is an better version and an official restaurant comparedto something like Panera Bread. Good environment for casual meetings or just a nice lunch out during the work day. Read more
