An interesting food experience. Venezuelan. I've had a wonderfully flavorful chicken sandwich with plantains for the bun

This food was excellent. My wife is gluten intolerant and we were super excited to hear that only 2 items on the menu (teque... tots, and number 20) not gluten free. The flavors are amazing we had the arepas and empenadas. I love the shredded beef. Thebeans and rice were great add. We told them we would be back and try the plantains next time. Note, on Saturdays, they shutdown around 3pm to prep for post 5pm dinner crowd. We arrived for late lunch. The Barley pod area has quite a bit of seatingand many outdoor tables with awning or umbrella covering. Overall about 10 food carts here with small indoor beer hall. Publicrestroom here as well. Love this place! The food is delicious, and fairly priced, with nice, filling portions. My picky eaters love the arepas and... tostones! Read more

My arepa and plantains were delicious! I loved the blanco sauce (habenero buttermilk) too. I will definitely be back for more!

La Areapa is a great Venezuelan place that I recommend especially for the Flautas, the best items by far on their menu in my... opinion. The prices are a bit steep in my opinion, I feel things could be around a $1 cheaper but the food taste great and Irecommend for dinner or lunch. Read more

I visited this pod with my wife, and we each shared items from different carts. Being the smart one in the family, my wife... chose La Arepa, and went with their Shredded Chicken Arepa as her choice. The wait for her food turned out to be much shorterthan the expected few minutes, as a fresh Arepa happened to be immediately available. This meant that I ended up trying to grabmore than my share as the other order from a different cart took a bit longer to materialize. This allowed me to appreciate theflavor, and, for me, the wonderful combination of textures in La Arepa's cooking. Between the arepa itself, the chicken, andthe cheese (Cotija?) that came on top, every bite told a lovely and varied story. I'm very much looking forward to exploringmore of their menu. Read more

I have had arepas at several places in Portland, and La Arepas' are my favorite. They have the best filling-to-breading ratio,... in my opinion, and the breading itself is light, which really allows all of the ingredients to shine. For those who areunfamiliar, arepas are a traditional Venezuelan street food, that consist of a flat, round, bread-like patty that is made ofgrilled or deep-fried (and naturally gluten-free) cornmeal, which is then filled with meat, cheese or vegetables. So this is agreat spot for gluten-free diets, and also has vegetarian or vegan options. Pictured, is the Shredded Chicken Arepa, with addedavocado. It features mildly spicy, slow-cooked, shredded chicken, that is seasoned with onion, garlic, sweet pepper, andpaprika. It was served with a mild white sauce, which I believe was a cilantro garlic nata (I should have asked). I have alsohad their Shredded Beef arepa, which I think is still my favorite (it is a bit spicier). There is a picture of it, from a coupleof years ago, on my Instagram, I believe taken at the Foster location. La Arepa currently has three locations (including a newcommercial kitchen, for deliveries!), but I did see something online about one or more of the locations moving to a differentplace in Portland, in early November, so keep an eye out for that.
