Always amazing food and service at Hat Yai! Love that even in Portland this location cleans your dishes from the table, just a... nice service thing. Quick orders, great atmosphere, and perfect for visiting family or friends! Read more

I was so ready to be blown away by Hat Yai, and although the flavors were rich and complex, ultimately it comes down to whether... I'd spend the money again and the answer is regrettably no. The service was friendly and quite fast. The room is industrial andtherefore cold feeling; the seating consists of metal folding chairs and benches, but we found seating to be easy to find. Foodwise, we tried the Hat Yai for 2 combo, which comes with fried chicken, sticky rice, roti, and house curry. The standout wasdefinitely the roti and curry, and I kind of wish I'd only ordered a bunch of curry broth and roti although the chicken wasjuicy and well-seasoned. We also tried the brisket curry, which would have been the star of the night with its perfectly tenderbeef and spicy Thai pepper slivers, had it not been served in such a small portion. For $17 we got six pieces of brisket andabout a cup of broth. It seemed like an appetizer or like a half portion of what you'd expect at another Thai restaurant.Ultimately not a place I'd drop $70 at again. Read more

The curry was smooth, but the flavor was bland. The fried chicken tasted very common, but the roti was top notch. Overall, I get... the business model of serving Roti with curry, but charging $4 for a small side of rice is very outrageous. Read more

Came in on the last day of a 3-week cross country trip from MA to WA, and can safely say that the vegan curry combo with roti... and fried chicken wings was one of the best things I ate on my whole trip. Deep, rich flavors with really thoughtful balancingof spice, acid, and fat in all the right places. I think the chicken had coriander seeds fried in the coating? Incredible. Don'tsleep on this. This place has an interesting, Thai-influenced menu, highlighted by fried chicken. However, the curries are what blew me away.... The malayu curry was rich, a little sweet, and pretty much what I dream of for a Thai curry. The braised chicken resting in itwas super tender. The beef skewer had a nice crust and the curry sauce that is was resting in was phenomenal.. 10/10! Roti is aunique addition to a Thai menu -- switches things up from the usual rice accompaniment, and it's excellent for soaking up allthe flavors. The value at Hat Yai is through the roof! High-end flavors for every day prices! Read more

Lip-smacking crispy Thai-style fried chicken!!! I love the roti sets that come with roti and curry for dipping. Everything here... is so tasty. The chicken is crispy and moist and goes well with the curry and roti. The pickled veggies that come with the setare crave-worthy and add a nice texture and acidity to the meal. The cocktails here are really creative, fusing Thai flavorswith classic favorites. There is lots of outdoor seating. Service is fast and friendly. Read more

Really wanted to love this place as it has been on my list for quite a while, however, it was lacking. The fried chicken was... mostly bone with no sauce. They just provide a side of the typical bottled Thai sweet chili sauce which isn’t a unique orspecial flavor for those of us who eat/make Thai food regularly. The pork belly and horchata was very good, which bumped them upto 3 stars. Also, please note that this restaurant doesn’t provide the typical huge portions of dishes like pad Thai andcurry. The portions are small and you will need to order more than one dish for dinner. Read more

I don’t eat chicken, so this review is skewed, but the supporting cast of dishes still hit the spot. We had the 4 person... chicken/roti dinner with both the regular curry and vegan curry. In addition we ordered the pad Thai, a delicious new special,Hokkien Mee, a cauliflower side dish that leaned on the salty side, and a few Thai iced teas to round out the meal. The heatedoutdoor dining experience was really wonderful on a rainy day. Read more
