Reviews for Down to Earth Cafe in Portland, OR
This was our first time dining at this restaurant. We had high hopes after reading online reviews. Unfortunately we sat for 55... minutes before receiving our food. We were told that the plain hamburger my child ordered would ?take a long time time to make?.This was after we had already waited about 20 minutes. Once our food arrived the scrambled eggs were cool, with unmelted cheeseon top. The hamburger was not hot either. The fried potatoes had zero flavor but a weird yellow tint. My toast had burn marks. The only positive aspect was our kind waitress. The owners were ten feet from us and looked at us several times. A proper leaderin management would have taken the time to apologize directly to us, rather than letting the waitress take all the blame. Such adisappointment and waste of money. Read more
Horrible Customer Service! Was sat very squished between others. Waitress was very rude to my girlfriend, spilt water on her by... throwing them down on the table, said specials are over there and walked away. I asked to move to a corner table due to a hurtback that doesn?t allow me to sit up right in my chair. Was told the corner tables were for bigger groups. 30 seconds later theysat another group of 2 at one of the open corner tables. I asked again, told them about my back AGAIN and told them it was veryuncomfortable to sit where we were sitting. They again argued with me that it?s very bigger groups and said I could wait for adifferent table so we left and went around the corner to fat city cafe! Way nicer experience. Read more
In search of quality gluten-free food, cafés. I traveled 38 miles to buy the Chicken Pear Salad 3 * due to not very much... chicken. 1 star is for the Baklava size for the price when your looking at the case you see large pieces. But I got a half of apiece for 3.50$ .To the owner make each piece size as advertised. Read more
I'll start off saying the food wasn't bad. But the service was awful. Took 10 minutes for anyone to greet us after we sat. Then... when we finally got the food, my gf took her first bite and there was a piece of plastic in her salad. Looked like a piece of aplastic fork or a piece of the container. Watched our server just walk out of the restaurant, maybe on break? Waited for 15minutes for someone to check on us so we could tell them. Ran out of water, no one ever came. We finally decided to get up andcheck out and the guy who I assume was the owner started to check us out and we told him about the plastic. He didn't evenapologize he just shrugged it off and said well it's premade salad so he doesn't know why. Didn't offer any kind of sympathy ora discount, not that we were looking for one, but if you're not going to apologize at least hook it up? Idk, I dont think wewill be going back, the food was fine, but the experience was really lame. Read more
If I could give less than a single star, I would. Walked in to this absurd establishment and was looked at multiple times by... what I can imagine is the owner and for what had to been 10 minutes with nothing said to me or a greeting. Just completelyignored. I eventually left. So after a couple months, I completely forgot and came to find an empty restaurant so satimmediately and ordered?damn good breakfast. Veggie omelette with juice and turkey bacon. It was all very fresh and delicious.$1 charge for 3 very thin slices of avocado. Read more
The food looks simple but don?t discredit it :) Please note that the majority of 1-3 star reviews are either take out/delivery... or they visited during peak hour. This last time I went was about 50 minutes before closing, and we had a great experience. Wewere only a party of two but we were able to sit at a 4-top, and our food was delivered to our table less than 10 minutes afterordering. I ordered the breakfast burrito with no sour cream (hence why my plate looks so empty), and the sandwich is thechipotle turkey. The burrito was 3 meals for me, and the sandwich is at least 2 meals. We paid about $13 per meal, and it wasworth every penny. This is the most affordable sit-down restaurant in the area (besides a bar/pub), and in my opinion thehighest quality. The owner is wonderful, I cannot recommend this establishment enough. Definitely stop by, if not for food atleast a smoothie. Read more
At first glance, the food seemed well packaged but it was disassembled when I opened the box. The eggs Benedict were pretty... good. The hollandaise sauce was a little runny and a little bland but the dish altogether wasn?t bad. The potatoes?werepotatoes. They were cooked well and seasoned; my personal preference is a little crispier and saltier. The French toast wasinteresting. It had strawberry cream cheese in the middle, but because it was so thin the texture was a little off for me. Thesyrup flavor was nice and light but very runny. It was a solid meal overall and it?s always nice when I don?t have to cook. Read more
The food is very good but both times I went the management was very rude. The second time I came in there was no indication of... what to do (seat myself or wait to be seated) and the manager looked at me like I was crazy for being confused! The waitressesseem very kind, it?s a shame I won?t be back. Read more
