Reviews for El Rayo Taqueria in Portland, ME
We were here from out of town visiting family. We found that several eateries in Portland were closed on Sunday or only did... carry-out so we all had lunch at this casual Taqueria. I got the Squash Burrito special which was a little spicy. My hubby got apork quesadilla that he liked and my brother & his wife really enjoyed the avocado bowl. The staff was not super friendly butit's not a big deal since they just take your order and you pick it up at the register. Surprisingly this place wasn't busywhile we were here. Read more
Great tasting authentic Mexican food right I'm the heart of Downtown Portland. The taco plates and the rice and bean bowls were... fantastic and well worth the price (around $13 each). They also had a wide selection of bottled beers and beers on tap. Finaltip, try the roasted pineapple salsa and chips. We'd never had it before but loved it. It's worth a try! Read more
Live music on the back deck on a beautiful sunny day in the Old Port with delicious tacos and fresh made margaritas with the... family...how do you beat that?? Read more
The positives of this place are that the patio allows dogs and the ordering at the counter and the beeper system is efficient. ... The negatives are that our group ordered 6 different items off the menu and all of us rated the food sub-par. The food lackedflavor, and we were very disappointed. Thankfully cute dogs made it not a total lost of an hour. Read more
The customer service was good. Very friendly people. I'm from the west coast so no Mexican food can really compare, but I liked... the carnitas a lot. ???? Not the BEST Mexican food I've had, but if there was nothing else, this is solid. They've got a decentvariety in drinks too. Gotta hand it to em. Read more

It's all right. Had the Quesadilla. Salsa seemed hard to come buy. No Salsa Station or anything. None was given as a courtesy... with the chips. Found that odd. Maybe my server simply didn't give me any. There was a tiny cup of Pico that was grotesquelyinsufficient. One bottle of Hot Sauce on the table of an unknown brand. Was hot,but not good. An array of bottled sauces shouldbe offered. Cholula, Tapatio , Etc. Think they charge for every dab of this and that. Sour Cream was $2. The Steak Quesadillawas decent, but not over the rainbow good. Needed seasoning. Could have used some of that missing salsa or hot sauce. Might gotry the tacos. I heard they are good. We'll see. Ordered the fish tacos. They weren't bad at all, but all in all were pretty mid. Where are the radishes? Pickled onions? I'd... eat here again if I could just bring that with me. Then again, the fish they chose is either dry by its nature, or theyovercooked it. The margarita was very bog standard and I enjoyed it. Read more
