Reviews for Smokehouse BBQ in Port Royal, SC

We were in Port Royal on vacation and like to try out new BBQ joints. We also tend to be rather picky as we have our own smoker... and often BBQ at home. This place did not live up to the reviews. The collards were ok, lacking some flavor. The mac and cheesewas average. The grilled fish and shrimp was average but the shrimp were a bit over cooked. The brisket was HORRIBLE. Therewasn't much smoke flavor, it was so dry it looked like it was last night's reheated in the oven. Couldn't put enough sauce on itto fix it. I'd like to believe they can do better so give it a try if you'd like. Read more

Amazing!! I?m originally from NYC, so ?hole in the wall? type spots are always gonna be my go-to when out of town. And this... place was chefs kiss! All of the food was 10/10. No complaints! Will definitely come back whenever we visit. Read more

Smokehouse was a pleasant surprise at Hilton Head. Smoky sweet meat that barely even needs sauce, southern bbq without the... unnecessary grease. Smoked chicken chowder was my favorite and the choice of sides were plentifully appetizing. Great prices andexcellent service. Excited to come again! Read more

Came here for our last night of Vacation since most other local places had an hour + wait. Best decision ever, small home town... feel, fantastic food, reasonable prices! The Spicy Cowboy Burger was phenomenal! Read more

Shrimp PoBoy was full of tasty shrimp, lots of bread. The French fries are out of a bag. The BBQ on Texas toast was very tasty... and moist but the portion was meager. Little better than OK. Read more

I do not know if the other reviews are honest reviews or done by people affiliated with the restaurant but our experience was... not good. The picture shows the twenty-eight dollar sampler minus the two sides. The sausage tasted like Johnsonville that hadbeen thrown into the smoker. The brisket was tender but tasted like it had been cooked in an oven. The pulled pork had theconsistency of baby food. The ribs were mushy. The chicken was the perfect tenderness but not much of a smoke flavor. Therewasn?t much if any defined smoke ring on any of the meats. I handed the server me credit card and she charged my card for thefood and a twenty percent gratuity on the entire bill, including sales tax without my authority. She handed me a receipt andsaid I didn?t need to sign anything. I know every restaurant has an off day, so try at your own risk. Read more
