Reviews for The Bewildered Pig in Philo, CA
Was able to share this experience with my father for his birthday, and just had an absolutely wonderful experience. Gorgeous... plating, wonderful tastes, and honest conversation with the folks behind the magic that didn’t come off that we were botheringthem or that they had to fake their love of their craft. Felt more like we were dining in their home than at arestaurant. Highly recommended stop, and look forward to trying more menus in the future. Read more
Not dog or family friendly. We were on our last summer road trip and were looking for a dog friendly restaurant to stop for... lunch. Google had this restaurant as dog friendly on their patio. However, when we arrived the staff were incredibly unfriendly, rude and rolling their eyes when we were waiting to be seated. The woman who finally come to the counter after making childishfaces to her co-worker informed me they only seat reservations...which was not apart of their Google reviews. So, we left andwill not bother wasting our time in the future. Too bad, it could have been a fun spot. The staff made it dismal and avoidablefor the future trips. Read more
The Bewildered Pig is the full package. Every detail has been finely tuned from the world class appetizers & entrees to the uber... comfortable ambience. Sit by the firepit while drinking local wines and sharing stories with Daniel but don't miss a meanderthrough the garden and water features. Highly recommend on all accounts. Read more
We arrived a bit early and we got to enjoy a glass of bubbly while sitting in the quaint outdoor patio, with a fire cauldron... repurposed from rustic oil container situated on old train tracks. It was nice to chat with Daniel and taking in his whimsicalcreations. The prefixed dinner was perfectly paired with eclectic mix of wines. If the outdoor scape is backdrops of Daniel’screations, each dinner course is Janelle’s painting palette. We were pleasantly bewildered. Read more
I have been waiting to drive out to this place to eat and it did not let me down. Everything had a very natural earthy type... taste to it and was done extremely well. Service was impeccable however there was a guy there he said he'd give me a cigar andhe never gave me a cigar. The soup was otherworldly delicious I highly suggest people get the soup. Read more
Really outstanding work by this chef. Layers of flavors and local ingredients turn traditional dishes of halibut and filet... mignon into master works. Small place so make a reservation. Helpful staff including cameos by the chef’s husband helpingwith wine pairings. Tonight’s specials included an amazing Borscht with trout roe and creme fraiche. Don’t miss this place! Read more
One of the best meals I've had in Northern California. Great ambiance, very relaxed upscale, with excellent indoor and outdoor... seating. The grounds are landscaped beautifully. The menu is concise and everything sounded exciting and delicious. We tried afew small bites, a salad, entrée, and dessert. All were exceptional – although the dessert, the Celebration of Citrus, reallydid steal the show. Service was friendly, prompt, and helpful. My only small complaint would be that the wine list is somewhatlimited – I would have loved a syrah or a slightly sturdier red than the three (two pinot, one lighter blend) on offer by theglass. Given the hearty beef and pork dishes, it seems like it would be useful to have at least one heavyweight – especiallygiven that the Mendocino Ridge AVA, just a few miles away, produces arguably some of the best syrah in the country. But that'sa minor thing – and next time I can always bring my own bottle, given that they have a reasonably generouscomplimentary-corkage-with-bottle-purchase policy. Highly recommended to anyone passing through the Anderson Valley (andpotentially worth a day trip from Healdsburg or further abroad). Read more
A delight for all your senses! Before you walk in you hear the gentle gurgling of the many water fountains that fill the... beautiful garden which is an oasis along Hwy 128 with a fantastic variety of plants including edible herbs, fruits and cactuseslovingly curated by the owner. The indoor restaurant looks cozy and we very much enjoyed the back patio where we had our lunch. We were there on a chili day and it felt warm and protected but it looked like it would be equally comfortable on those hotsummer days because of the overhead shade, fountains and water misters we saw. We made our reservations and paid for our $75prix fixe meal online so were a bit confused when we were handed menus with the market food list. After a few awkward starts weunderstood that all meals are prix fixe. They also have many items available from a market menu that should the dining area befull and you arrive without reservations, you can order many items of the menu and take to the front porch and eat picnic styleat their front tables. You can also bring some of these wonderful food items home if you want to extend the pleasures of yourmeal. Our lunch included a uniquely fantastic deviled egg, wonderful cabocha squash soup, a pork belly entree and carrot icecream dessert. There are also two additional dishes which you can add to your meal. We had the Caesar salad which was tastyand refreshing. We also chose to include the wine pairing which featured great local wines. After the initial awkward orderingportion of the meal the rest of the service was friendly and we felt well taken care of. All the meal items were wonderful, highlighting local ingredients and bringing the best of each, together in a symphony for your taste buds. I highly recommend ameal at Bewildered Pig when you are in the Anderson Valley especially if you enjoy eating as much as tasting wines. It's anevent and you probably will want this to be the highlight of your day! Read more
