Pita fluffy and freaking perfect, the double fried eggplant was heaven, and to top it off the sauces were a hit!! Highly... recommend for the best pita sandwich. Oh and the music choice is perfect to sit down and eat too, can't say enough about thisplace. Read more

WARNING: Every Bill is 15% higher than marked b/c there's a surprise 10% fee on every bill that's applied after 8% tax and then... the suggested tip is based on that double-inflated amount. Even though the food is good, and the service is friendly, that doesnot overcome the nasty surprise. There's no notice when you sign the ipad. There's no notice on the menu at the cash register. The only notice is on one of 5 or 6 different overhead boards with menu items and prices. So, if you don't look at the right oneAND see the notice, you'll be surprised AFTER you pay and get a receipt which is where the overcharge is revealed. As a resultof all this, I give 1 star and put it on my gMaps List "Places to Avoid." The food is very good, BUT NOT Good enough toovercome this because you can get as good Israeli food and middle eastern food nearby without the nasty surprise. What's worseis that this customer-service blunder is completely avoidable. Just drop the surcharge and raise all your prices by 10%. Thenyou won't deliver a nasty surprise. Read more
Lamb shawarma is great. Get the platter with hummus and spend a buck for an extra pita. You'll need it to clean the bowl! The... slaw tasty, and homemade soda is good too. Read more

I was not a big fan of the lamb sandwich I decided to try out during my first visit to Merkaz because it was extremely salty -... not sure if this was the condiments in the sandwich. Also the meat was extra well done. I did however enjoy the coffee. Read more
Fantastic hummus. Easily the best I?ve had in Philly. I do wish the chicken salad were less salty, and that everything (from the... beet to the cauliflower) were more regularly stocked. The roast chicken and the whole cauliflower require a full 24 hrs notice.I get it - but also, can you guys simply have a few on hand at all times? Or at least prepared and ready to sell? I don?t plan aday ahead like this? perhaps I should, but it?s not my style. On top of that - salatims are regularly out of stock. Additionalcategories of food items would make this a must have weekly place. The hummus alone is enough to get me to order it for deliveryanyway, but they?d have more of my money with additional categories for sides and meals. All in all - Merkaz is far superiorimo to dizengoff and Goldie. In fact, Dizengoff at Whole Foods gave me food poisoning once (around 5 years ago?) and I sworenever to come back. Merkaz renewed my faith in the restaurant group. It?s so dang good. Just stay away from the eggs (my friendalso have a haminado egg and felt sick afterward). I don?t understand the business model - but the food is damn good. Read more
