Reviews for Cafe Mambo in Paia, HI
ADORABLE little cafe with nice drinks and good food. The highlight of the experience is definitely the personality of the... establishment and the waiters and waitresses, because the food is a little pricy.Chips and salsa were quite good! I had a MauiBrewing Root Beer while my party had lemonade and Mai Tais. We were all very satisfied. Read more
Amazing duck salad, beer, and coconut creme Brule. I ate around 130 and it was quiet enough to get a table right away. Highly... recommend! Read more
We come here at least once a year and usually get the duck fajitas which are amazing. I think this year we strayed off the... beaten path too far. My partner got the fish sandwich and she said it was flavorless and dull. She was also suprised she got thetop of the tomato and they didn't bother to remove the core from it. I got the mambo nachos and added duck. It was mediocre atbest, the duck was nice and crispy but the beans look liked the can wasn't rinsed and drained. The amount of cheese was notsubstantial enough to call it nachos. I think calling it chips with a cheese dusting would be more fair. Just about everytime Ihave ordered nachos, even at a dive bar they layer the chips with cheese between layers. This just had topping placed on top. Soafter the top chip are eaten your pretty much just have a plate of chips. The last part of the nachos which seem quite aconundrum to me is that the guacamole was mostly filler of white and red onions. This island has avacado trees everywheregrowing like weeds, they are redicously abundant and I just had like one scoop of guac on my plate. This first came apparentwhen I ordered a side dish of guac for my 15 month daughter who LOVES avacado. She usually just holds one chip and just scoopsup and eats it. It had so much onion in it she wouldn't even touch it. I have photos of this baby with her face entirely coveredin guac shovelling it in by the handful, not this time. The son however got a Duck burger and was very happy with it, theshoestring fries were great as well. Read more
We came here once and forgot to take pictures, because as soon as I saw my food I mowed it in about two minutes. So we came back... a couple days later, because the crispy duck burger is one of the best things I have ever eaten, and I am an accomplished eater.I am certain the other food here is good, but the only reason you shouldn't order the duck burger is because you ordered two.Get the onion rings, put one o' dem bad boys on it. Slather your upper bun with the curry mayo. Ask for a second tub of it. Ifyou're doing it right, you'll run out. Absolutely bonkers delicious. Read more
This restaurant is a quaint store front with a nice selection of food. We had fish tacos and the pork special. The pork was... presented on a bed of white rice with a sweet sauce that made it hard to stop eating it. The fish tacos were good but slightlyover cooked. There was a mix up in the kitchen and our order was lost. When they realized what happened, they offered us someperfectly fried fries with mambo sauce that tasted amazing. They have a decent selection of beers including Maui Brewing, alocal craft brew. I highly recommend stopping in for a cold beer and a tasty meal. Read more
We ate the vegan burgers and fries. We also split the chips and guac. It's hard to go wrong with Beyond Burgers. If the... restaurant is listening I'd love to get Beyond crumbles in a burrito, or chorizo tacos, or a black bean option. Vegan Mexicancan be more creative. All in all we had a good experience. We went there mid September on a Friday night around 7pm. They closed at 8pm. The had their famed crispy duck fajita and the... fresh fish fajita. Both came with an assortment of guacamole, sour cream, tomato sauce, salad etc served on a different plate, along with the fajitas and the duck and fish each on different plates. We loved both! The duck was juicy and crispy; but toooily. The fresh fish unfortunately overcooked. This is a nice , original place to hang. Easy going, great after surfing whenhanging out with yiur friend. The staff was super friendly even we were the last guests before closing. Read more
