Reviews for The Barley Neck in Orleans, MA
Went for the music and stayed for the drinks. Bartender Chris was an amazing guy and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Their... short rib pizza was a great way to finish the evening. Read more
Ordered the cod loin. Cod was a bit underdone. The rice was cold and the vegetables were luke warm. My ginger martini was made... with low end vodka, Bartons, and had no ginger taste. Odds are I I won’t be back. There are plenty of other places that get itright the first time. Read more
Tsk.Tsk, This was not a five star restaurant when we went last Thursday evening. I understand that there is a staff shortage,... but in a restaurant like this, they could do a basic training session. Our waiter was consistently slow in bringing us our foodand drinks. He did not give me a clear description of the little neck clam stew, nor the gluten free option. He plunked thebread down without telling me if it was gluten free or not. He brought two meals and took awhile to bring the third- which meantthat two of us had to wait, as our food got cold, for the third meal to arrive. After he brought the third meal, he did notcome back to the table to ask if we needed anything (we did), or if all was good with the food. We had to ask another waiter toget some more bread, whether the bread was gluten free, and for the check to be picked up. This was not good service. Does heexpect a big tip? The food was very good, except for the second serving of bread, which was dry, perhaps stale. However, theclam stew was not sufficient for a meal. It was OK for me, but my son-in-law was eating again soon after we arrived home. Considering it was the entree, we should have had sufficient portions or it should have been more hearty. It was a light soup, nothing to qualify as a meal. All in all, I would be reluctant to return. I expect a waiter to know what he is serving andinform us. I expect an entree to be sufficient as a meal. That didn’t happen. Read more
Atmosphere is great, and last year food was very good. This year food was just so-so. However, we did eat at the bar (our... choice), and would go back. It wasn't awful, by any means, just "okay". Read more
Came in one night after doing some shopping in the area with my wife, we got a short rib pizza that was amazing, best pizza in... the cape! Highly recommend, plenty of parking and cornhole outside in the back if your feeling like some fun games. Cool place Read more
The atmosphere was pleasant and cozy. The food was exceptionally delicious. And there was entertainment to enjoy. My party and I... chatted and swayed along with the music after dinner while enjoying our beverages. Read more
Ordered the 3 course meal (soup, sole, ice cream) for $18. The sole was not delicious at all. The dessert saved the day, though,... but I had to remind the server to bring me my dessert (she forgot). The salmon was pretty good, though. Read more
Went for Thanksgiving. Mistake. Honestly, it was a mistake by them as well, because they lost a potential long-time customer,... as we live right down the road. But we ended up with a $400 tab for Thanksgiving for four - three standard turkey dinners and aprime rib. All turkey meals came cold, and though I asked for mine to be reheated, even when it came back to me, it waslukewarm. This is poultry, for heaven's sake, it needs to be hot! And even setting safety aside, for what was paid... this wasabsurd. Everything was cold, not just the meat. It was clear that the meals had been portioned out and warmed ahead of time, which might pass for a diner, but not for what this establishment is trying to be. The food quality was poor, the taste wasbland and underseasoned, the one beef was difficult to cut, and the desserts were awful. (Soggy Indian pudding with...?coconut?!?... and a crust that left crispy on the highway and went all the way to rock.) Should've just gone with NausetFarm's predone meals down the road or one of the way cheaper but better quality local grocery stores premade meals. I will saythat our server was wonderful, as was my chowder (which I didn't finish in anticipation of a spectacular meal - had I known, Iwould've eaten the whole thing), and my house white wine, while overpriced, was very good. But for heaven's sake. This was anincredible miss by Barley Neck. If you can't do Thanksgiving, don't try. Forgive me. Bread pudding. Theoretically withcranberries and nuts, though I didn't find either. And I spoke with my server, and given the number of people, I chose tocontinue with my meal rather than disturb a manager who I knew would be busy on a holiday that was my time to relax, not make anissue of things.
