On holiday in Ocean Springs and we always look for local favorites. Well this place is definitely a favorite with the locals!... The parking lot was loaded with regulars coming to pick up their orders. Right now it?s take out only and you can call ahead ororder from the lady at the door and wait for it. The owner was very proud of her business and explained the history of the nameNana J?s and informed us that everything is home made from scratch. We ordered ribs and fried pork chops with sweet potato,beans and the pork chops even came with delicious smothered rice. The whole meal came with banana pudding and a beverage aswell. The food is spectacular. I had the ribs, Mac & cheese and collard greens. My husband had smothered pork chops with rice/gravy,... fried okra and Mac & cheese. The meal includes cornbread and banana pudding for dessert. The flavors are incredible and theportion sizes are tremendous (both of us had leftovers). It is so amazing that many people are lined up outside to receivetheir to-go orders in a parking lot that is filled with huge potholes. We paid $32 and left the guy that brought us the food a$5 tip. They forgot our drinks (we didn't really want them, but they are included in the meal). In spite of having a closeddining room (COVID-19 protocols), being a little pricey for home-cookin', only being open for business 12 noon til 5 pm Wed-Sunand wading through muddy water (literally) I still MUST give this restaurant 5 stars. This is a bucket-list kinda place. NanaJ's lives up to her reputation. Someone should help this woman fix up her parking lot. She is a major asset to this community! Read more
The food is so good, you forget about the rest. Initially, I was upset at the parking lot, being we have a low centered car, I... had to get out and see if my wife could actually navigate through the huge mud puddles to get there. Then the man came out, andhe looked like he was really tired from working hard. This makes sense because It seems this place is the bomb. Well, heforgot our drinks. No big deal. I didn't really want a drink anyways, and we have drinks at home. We made it home and all ican say is WOW WOW WOW! I forgot all about the other stuff. My smothered pork chops were awesome. The Okra was the best I haveever had in my life! The mac N Cheese was tied for first on the best I have ever had as well. The portions were very generous. Seconds are included with this meal! Normally, i ONLY give 5 stars if they are hitting on all cylinders. Meaning everything isgood, customer service, parking, friendliness, cleanliness, etc.. but the food is like 6 stars so that drags the other stuff,which is fixable up the scale a bit. I was born and raised in the south, and this is by far the best soul food I?ve ever eaten. Like?by far. Portions are huge. I... had the fried pork chops, macaroni and cheese, fried okra. My mom had the fried catfish, fried local shrimp, baked beans andpotato salad. Everything we tried was fantastic and at very reasonable prices The owner was so hospitable?we felt like we wereguest in her house eating at her kitchen table. She should be very proud of her restaurant, because she has created somethingvery special. What a gift to the community. Read more
