While visiting the area for my birthday getaway, I chose this place for a steak dinner. The food was delicious and the Baileys... Irish Cream cheesecake was AMAZING!! Atmosphere is rustic casual, with dining area and bar. My server, Debbra was friendly andattentive, bringing a smile to my day. Seems to be plenty of parking, but there is road construction blocking the side roadentrance, which my GPS did not adjust for. I enjoyed my meal and would definitely return if I'm in the area again. Came to the World Equestrian Center for my Birthday weekend. Found the hotel dining a bit pretentious so sought out some place... that looked more laid back. We found the Horse & Hounds online. The martini list was fun and the Pineapple Upside down one wasdelicious. Fried pickles were fresh and the breading was perfect. I had a hard time deciding what to pick for dinner and was notdisappointed with the prime rib which was cooked to perfection. The sweet potato wedges were delicious with an icing dippingsauce. Rachel, our server, was so helpful and attentive. There was also a manager (I think) walking around and helping out. Foodand service were so good, we went back the next night to try more on the menu. Yummy pub fare! I have been getting their bangers and mash for years and it never disappoints. This time we also tried the beer... cheese and pretzels. The toasty pretzel bites with the rich beer cheese definitely hit the spot. Read more
At the price point that they are charging, I expected better food and service. The girl who greeted us didn?t utter a word nor a... smile and barely bothered to look up from her paper when we asked to be seated. The food was adequate but not anywhere close towhat they are charging. The cheese curds were actually quite good. However, I asked for a medium rare steak but it came outburned to a crisp. People stand around the perimeter of the restaurant smoking causing you to smell cigarette smoke the wholemeal if you are sitting outside. While the server was clearly overworked she was very sweet and helpful. We will probably beback because we live down the road but if I was passing through I wouldn?t bother. Read more
Expectations were high going in. Never heard a bad thing about this place. I don?t know why but I always thought this place was... expensive. Probably because if you have horses you don?t have dogs, you have hounds. Like, ?Fetch the hounds, I?m going for ahunt on my steed,? y?know like how you could imagine saying that to your butler or something. So I went with friends and weshared fried cheese curds, soft pretzels and beer cheese, mussels, escargot, brie and ahi for appetizers. I wish I couldrecommend one? but I gotta say they were all shockingly good. Down to the marinara served with the curds. Everything. Just getit all. For entrees we had shepherds pie, cajun pasta, french dip, buffalo shrimp, beer cheese burger and the prime ribsandwich. Out of alllllll of that, the only thing everyone wasn?t obsessed with was the au jus with the french dip. That?s it.And it was all the same price or less than you?d expect to pay at an Ale House. We live in north Florida and when traveling to Ocala to visit family we pass by the Horse & Hound. I've always wanted to eat... there. Finally did. Small restaurant inside plus outside dining. Our waiter was very attentive and the hostess was verypleasant. We ordered half a sandwich with soup or salad. I had the salad and it was well prepared. My husband had stuffed peppersoup and it was delicious. The corned beef on the Reuben was a little dry but sandwich was okay. May return next visit to thearea and try their prime rib sandwich.
