Really loved the experience at Mockingbird! Would go there again.
Had dinner last night while visiting a friend in Oakland, and was really excited as I'd heard good things about Mockingbird. We... were seated upstairs when we arrived and the first thing we noticed were that we were surrounded by flies; we kept having toswat them away from our faces and off our dishes. I mentioned this to the server and she said that is normal as they'reattracted to the wine (not the kind of response I was expecting to hear as I've been to plenty of wine serving restaurants thataren't infested with flies). There must have been about 15 flies flying around us all night and sitting on the walls beside us,very very gross when trying to eat. Aside from this the food was very good; we had the brussel sprouts, the risotto and thesteak which were all delicious. The steak was very tasty but arrived cold which was a disappointment, and I mentioned this tothe server. I didn't have time to have the dish recooked as we were in a rush to get to other evening plans, and so we werecomped a glass of wine. Overall, I'm sure if they can get rid of the flies it would be a place that might be worth coming backto. Sad that this will be my lasting memory of my one dining experience in Oakland. Read more
I came to celebrate my friend's birthday and we loved it. The food was amazing and the service as well. We tried their brussel... sprouts and mushrooms as a starter, then we tried their meatballs with a side of pasta (nice suggestion from our waiter, sincethey come just with bread), a grilled fish with some sort of chimichurri (that was the highlight of the night), stake andanother speciality pasta with eggplant, basil and some chili. I want to mention that the service we had was incredible, thewaiter was super attentive and she was able to prepare a cocktail with chile ancho liquor (which my friends enjoyed alot). Yes, the brussels sprouts are excellent. Unfortunately that's where the positives end. The waiter was very nice but sadly... overwhelmed. The food runner kept bringing food to the wrong tables resulting in our table and the tables on either side of usnever having all their entrees on the table at the same time, not a little off in timing, people finished their food beforesomeone else's entree arrived. The entrees were bland as well, the carbonara which was recommended to us looked and tasted likeit had been left under a heat lamp for twenty minutes, maybe it had? I had high hopes, I might give it a second chance becauseI do like the menu and the location and the wine list but not anytime soon. Read more
Stopped in here after seeing the menu online nearby, Cocktails were uninspiring, mostly soured and very little complexity, ... however service was good! Happy hour menu was a plus but the meatball sandwich on it was the most disappointing thing I haveordered in a long time, the bread fantastic, the cheese melty and delicious, even the arugula was on point but the meatballs,The heart of the sandwich... Left such a monumental feeling of disappointment that it utterly ruined the experience. The sauce,perhaps is normally the saving grace of this dish honestly reminded me of spaghetti-o's... The space was warm and welcoming andthe staff very kind, it's unfortunate that the food does not match, though I would venture to say it's not how the items wereprepared and presented, more the recipes used and that reflects the chef not the day-to-day staff. This place was in a perfect location near the 12th and Broadway BART station. Living in SF, it makes it easy to come here in the... future, hopefully with friends lol. I also had 2 orders of the fries...so good!!! Servers were kind and friendly and willpatiently answer your questions if any regarding the menu. Read more
