Pros. If your looking for good Cuban food and mojitos, I recommend. The waiter was awesome and new the menu well. It?s a cute... spot By the lake I always drag a new relative in town to. I?m glad the pork over mash is back. The Cons: My sisters rice in herseafood dish tasted pretty over cooked and burnt. Had to mask with sauce and salt that didn?t quite help. 2nd my cousin hadordered 4 empanadas, decided to share some of it, and the clerk, without asking us, split this on everyone?s bill. It was asthough my sister gave me a bite of her salad and now that bite showed up on my receipt. In addition, I was double charged for mydesert after denied a new print out of my receipt. Got to be a little more mindful guests are only charged for what theyordered. Just a suggestion as some folks like to order apps for the table and pay for it? not make everyone split the appetizeron their bill as the clerk assumed. It was strange. Read more
We are huge Cuban food fans and this was our first time trying this spot. Jerk chicken and fried chicken were great.... Unfortunately, the sides were cold and our mango slaw not only was rotten and fermented, but it had a dead bug in it. Prettydisappointed after spending 50 bucks on dinner. Read more
Wow, great food great service I will be back again again and again.
My first time going back since the pandemic, and they didn't disappoint!!! I loved every dish ????
Nice and Friendly staff, I ordered the chix and waffles. Was just ok... Presentation was nice. Only real problem I had was I... kept finding plastic in my waffles. Big turn off for me.. However, if they fix that I do think it can be a kool spot otherwise. Read more
First time visiting CANA Cuban Parlor & Cafe in Oakland and it was a good experience. CANA is located on the northbound side of... Lake Merritt not to far from the Grand Lake Theater. CANA Cuban Parlor and Cafe, just as it sounds in the name is a restaurantinspired by Cuban dishes, culture, folklore, and spirit. The Cafe sears around 50 folks comfortably and serves authentic LatinAmerica inspired dishes for those with varying palettes. There are two large flat screen tv?s that stream sports, a decent sizebar, friendly staff, and on Sunday?s live music. If you ever visit on Sunday, it?s nicknamed ?Sunday Funday,? because of thelive music, encouraged salsa dancing, and unique menu catered to the Sunday audience. There is a brunch menu available from openuntil 3:00 pm, a specialized drink menu, and Sunday specific dishes. Today, my wife order the Salmon and I got the Havana Saladwith grilled chicken. The salad was great and I?d definitely recommend trying it. Good spot for a casual date or brunch withfriends/colleagues! My only complaint is that our food took entire too long to come from the kitchen and our waitperson wasfriendly but a bit absent minded. Had to remind him about silverware and he forgot to bring my wife her mimosa. Read more
I didn't quite know what to expect, yet overall the food is excellent. Pre-pandemic, whenever I walked by this place, it was... vibrant with an overflow of patrons, loud music, and lots of conviviality; a true Cuban atmosphere. It was a bit more subduedwhen I visited. Only the cafe portion was open yet I had ordered for pickup online. All went smoothly and I like theconvenience of paying in advance The order wasn't quite ready when I arrived at the designated time, but shortly thereafter. Also, the expected text alert that the order is ready arrived at 5:04am. A bit of a glitch. I ordered the following- JerkGrilled Chicken Wings: they were just OK, and didn't have the punch of spice I expect from Jerk Caribbean food. The side of bluecheese dressing was ordinary. The wings were cooked well and meaty. Bistec Encebollado: a ribeye steak that I ordered mediumrare. It was perfect, a nice cut and succulent. The potatoes and onions with it were great, tasty and cooked perfectly. A verygood dish. Empanada Pollo: the online menu only has beef but I saw another menu with chicken. I requested chicken and got it! The empanadas are large and full of meat and flavor. Some of the best I've had in the Bay Area. Comes with a nice cilantrosauce. Arroz Con Pollo Fricassee: absolutely delicious and a standout entree. The chicken is plentiful and falls off the bonetender. The rice was flavored and incredibly good. Tostones con Mojo: fried plantains that exude flavor and quite tasty. Theycome with a fresh and light dipping sauce. The consistency, however, was a bit too crunchy for my taste. Grilled Pan Cubano: Iwas curious about Cuban bread and it was fresh and large cuts that had indeed been grilled with a light spice rub. It isgood. New Havana Salad: very fresh and full of greens and special extras, like black beans, mango, tomato, slivers of manchego, and banana (plantains perhaps?) The dressing was delicious and had a fruity taste. I just wish they would t Read more
