One of the best values in all the East Bay. This food is on point
I recently enjoyed a return visit to Cafe Dejena with a friend after morning Mass across the street at Sacred Heart Church. As... usual the eatery was inviting - it was clean and tidy and sparkled in the morning sun. The glass shelves were filled with allkinds of yummy baked goods that helped to whet the appetite. But my mind and tummy had already settled pancakes and bacon whicharrived piping hot very soon after I had placed the order. The pancakes were just the way I liked them fluffy and covered withbutter and I found the syrup just as enjoyable with just the right amount of maple sweetness. The bacon was flavorful, thoughthe slices were rather thin for my taste buds. Nevertheless I washed it all down with a robust cup of coffee. In addition tosuch American food classics this place is known for its eastern African fare, which I will leave others to comment on. Read more
Found this place by accident when looking for a quick lunch spot. They had a mix of salads, sandwiches, and Eritrean... specialties. I wanted to try the Eritrean food but my stomach wasn't feeling it so I went for the grilled veggies sandwich. Itwas just ok - quite soggy, missing some ingredients, and took awhile to make. I absolutely hated this place, as the food quality was nowhere near as good as the overblown price suggested. The pancakes were... cold and the extra bacon we ordered consisted of 2 over cooked rashers for $3! The cashier and servers were not very good andunable to correctly calculate our payment. The toilets were unclean. The hot beverages were served in glasses and the ?big?breakfast someone ordered was tiny. My main reason for hating this cafe was the ridiculous cost of the food, and I will not bereturning. Read more
The service was dreadful. When we ordered at the till,the cashier couldn't even calculate the prices on the calculator! We... ordered pancakes and rashers. The waitress came with three portions of pancakes with rashers and one portion of pancakes withoutrashers.It turned out that they didn't have enough bacon yet so we had to wait for the bacon to arrive. The bacon was two meagerpieces of petrified bacon for $3!(overpriced). The waffles came with berries which were already fermenting and didn't give me agood stomach afterwards. The coffee is amazing, the food is fresh but the service I had was awful. The latina lady that took my order and was very cold.... She just put my order in a bag (never asked if I wanted it to go mind you) dropped it on the counter and turned her back andwalked into the kitchen without a word. Read more
The staff here is very friendly and genuine. I brought my little sister in for some hot cocoa and the barista put an extra flair... on it for her. Extra cream and chocolate shavings. I come here every morning for my coffee! Service is nice and fast! Read more
