We went today during rockabillyque in Park circle and of course it was busy and crowded but we were seated quickly and our... waitress was friendly, efficient and very professional. I got the pork tacos with hash and rice and the tacos were wonderful butthe hash and rice left a little bit to be desired. There was a lot more rice than hash and the hash basically consisted ofpulled pork and potatoes and a little bit of fluid. This is definitely not Southern barbecue hash. Great service, nice environment but the food was lacking to say the least. The 'pulled pork' was dry and chewy. The Pork Belly... was so tough I couldn't physically tear a piece in half to share with my husband. Brisket was okay but definitely not worth the$30 I was being charged for my plate. On a recent visit to Charleston, my family stopped by for a late lunch at Southern Roots. I?m genuinely torn about how to rate... this restaurant. I had the brisket sandwich, which didn?t have much flavor to it. The bun was soggy making it impossible toeat, almost as if the meat had been kept under heat lamps with water, designed to some how keep it hot and moist. I tried allof their bbq sauces and really wasn?t impressed with them. The vinegar was just that?vinegar with a little spice to it. Notlike any other vinegar bbq sauce I?ve ever had or made. The spicy honey was okay but that?s what it was?honey and red pepperflakes. Their standard bbq sauce was decent and had a good thickness to it. Lots of great ideas on these, I just didn?t feellike most of them were executed very well. My daughter had the brisket quesadillas, which she said were great. We ordered aside of macaroni and cheese, which was just kinda okay. Having said all of that, our waitress was a delight. It was nice to beable to scan a QR code in order to pay when we were done. I ordered the pulled pork. It had a nice smokey taste but was so dry and tough I could barely chew it. The variety of sauces... were alright. The Mac and cheese was bland and could have used more cheese. The collards were too bitter. The service was fastand friendly. Read more

I don?t even know where to start. First and foremost, I am so grateful that I found this place. In less than 12 hours I have... already started telling family and friends about it. I ordered last night an hour before the kitchen closed. I called in andasked the employee to be patient with me as I just found this place online and I was viewing the menu as I attempted to order.She was so patient and kind. I ordered the sampler and the chicken meal with baked macaroni & cheese and baked beans as mysides. The food was FRESH. Did I mention I ordered an hour before the kitchen closed? And the food was fresh! My daughter atemost of the fries from me. They were fresh and tasty! These deep fried macaroni and cheese balls are now my new favorite snack!And the sauce that came with it!!!!!!! The sauce!!!!! The sauce!!!!! It was EVERYTHING! Okay, okay. The meats were allflavorful! The baked beans were so good! Like, some places over do it with the chopped seasoning in their baked beans. Nothere!!!! It was a perfect balance of sweet & savory.
