The food is delicious and creative and the service very friendly and efficient. I held back one star only because the restaurant... is on the back of the building so view tables are limited. If you want a view of the harbour, ask when reserving your table. Read more

Amazing hole-in-the-wall find. The Chowder, Gnocchi and daily special (Fresh Cod delivered earlier today) were delicious. We... paired it with the Adventure sour ???? beer after a long day of hiking up Gros Morne. Would highly recommend to anyone lookingfor a spectacular seafood restaurant. Read more

Just had a terrible experience at this establishment. I called twice asking for a table by the window with a nice water view for... our family of 3 on our last day at Newfoundland. To our utter disappointment, the restaurant pictures online turned out to behighly misleading. 2/3 of all tables have no water view, and in fact the whole room to the left is looking right at the hotelparking lot! When I asked for a nicer table, the hostess was ironic with me "but you asked for a table by the window so you'regiven one!" (the table was by the window but right over parking lot). The view into the bay was at a 100 degrees angle behindthe parking so you can't see water unless the table is slightly closer to the window. When I asked to kindly move the tablecloser to the window, the hostess agreed and moved it slightly. Just as our family was getting seated, a second lady (whointroduced herself as Teresa) ran to the table, and very rudely moved our table away from the window into the wall. There wasliterally no space left for my elderly mother to sit. When I tried to explain that the original table position was at leastgiving us enough leg room, she became very agitated, talked over me and repeated "at my restaurant the tables are standing theway they are!". It was useless to explain the original position, how it was moved and why. She was just rude, and didn't let mesay a word, although I asked her to step aside away from the rest of the dining room as to not bother other clients. I felthumiliated at this pretty expensive place. We left and ate at Rocky Harbor. I also suspect we were moved to the wall because ofour foreign accent. The "manager" also had very oily hair, didn't wear specialty attire, had tattoos all over her hands andneck and looked like a pub person with no training. Another worker later told me she was an "acting manager" that night as theregular manager had an appointment. In reality Teresa is a waitress. I would recommend avoiding this place by Read more

Cute restaurant located upstairs. The food was delicious. Friendly staff. Pricy, but worth it. Did not feel rushed. No dress... code. Some had shorts and t-shirts, others dressed fancy. Nice selection of wines as well. Definitely would recommend. We madereservations and so should you if you plan to go. It wasn?t busy when we got there, but soon after it filled up. Read more

Just visited the restaurant, not the hotel. Friendly service. Pretty good views of the harbour (two view options E+W). Make a... reservation in advance if you can. Good food and cocktails. Wine list looked good but we weren't in the mood for wine. Read more

THE spot if you want to treat yourself to a tasty meal, amazing views all around, a warm and modern ambiance at the same time,... and great service. By far the best meal we had during our time in Newfoundland. Highly recommend. Read more

Ok so after a full day of hiking in the park hubby and I were pretty hungry. We drove the 12 minutes from Rocky Harbour to... Neddies Point and dined at The Black Spruce. This was the view from our table. We had: potato leek soup, mussels, beet salad, and the daily catch entree which happened to be lobster - which came with rice and veg. The portions were reasonable, but nothuge. Fresh baked bread was provided for the table. Everything was delicious and well cooked. I?ve never enjoyed lobster somuch. We also sampled dessert (cashew tart, strawberry ice cream). The desserts were more sharing size but we ate them anyways:) We finished with specialty coffees which hilariously arrived in mugs about the size of a beer stein. The room is lovely andthe service was excellent. We had a reservation - I would be surprised if you could get in without one. If your trip budgetincludes splashing out on a fancy meal in the area, this would be a great choice. Read more

Perfect! This final evening in Gros Morne, when picking a restaurant for dinner we opted to find a place with a view. The... vista from our table at this beautifully appointed restaurant was outstanding! A bald eagle even soared gracefully across ourview of the mountains and the bay on this perfect evening. It took our breath away. We had had such a poor experience atanother restaurant in Rocky Harbour (see Java Jack review) that we were a bit reluctant to spend any money on anotherrestaurant in the area. At The Black Spruce though we were greeted warmly and taken to our well spaced and generous, reservedtable of 4. We felt special immediately. The host and the service staff were extremely professional and knowledgable regardingthe menu and the food offerings while still maintaining that characteristic Newfoundland charm. We were immediately served. Weordered a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate one of our final meals in this beautiful province. We toasted and drank in thesurroundings, the beautiful restaurant with soaring ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and the original, local art on thewalls. The food, one of the best meals we have had anywhere, the presentation hot, simple, elegant and perfectlyseasoned: Potato and leak soup - light but creamy scrumptiousness, beet salad - beautiful to look at and the citrus and labnehdressing with burnt almond delicious. chowder - chock full of seafood and taste! Appetizers were the perfect size to keep uswanting more and looking forward to the mains. And the mains did not disappoint. The days special, strip loin steaks came outperfectly cooked - rare and medium rare on top of potato puree (yummy mashed) and fresh asparagus hot but still with a crunch, the woody stem ends peeled (such perfect detail!). The risotto was equally perfect with perfectly cooked scallops and crab, and my Beef Paupiettes was unique with the rich mushroom ragout, wild rice (which too was perfectly prepared) and also theperfec Read more
