Reviews for Sombrero in Newton, IA
Was here around 6 tonight, food was okay. Fast yes but microwaved also yes !! All the plates were unnaturally hot. The staff was... attentive but pushy. The older heavy set man kept eye balling our big table to the point of making it uncomfortable . If you aregoing to stare that hard at least smile. Overall poor experience this place has plummeted by far the worst Mexican food inNewton Ia. Read more
Server rude a-hole, raw meat was mixed in my childs taco. They did nothing. No replacement. No let me cook this more. Nothing!... Lost another paying customer. Some day you realize you need customers to pay the bills. Read more
Nicely decorated and we got a table right away. Food came very quickly. Unfortunately, that's all the good things I can say. I... ordered a burrito and taco combo. I received an enchilada and taco. The beans had enough salt to cure a ham. I finished mydrink half way through the meal and was never offered a refill. In fact, after the food was delivered nobody even checked on usonce. We sat there for ten minutes after finishing waiting for the check until I asked for it. I'd be more understanding ifeveryone was busy, but the crew walked by us I don't know how many times while chit chatting with people at the bar. EDIT: Norestaurant is going to be great all the time. They responded to my review quickly and politely. I'm giving them the benefit ofthe doubt and moving my review up to 3 stars. Good luck Sombrero! Read more
I have been here many times since I moved to Newton a few years ago. Excellent service! Excellent food! Trust me, I know Mexican... food! I've been all over Southern California and Southern Arizona in a semi-truck. The Carne Asada street tacos are amazing. They serve Mexican Coke (made with real sugar) and Pacifico beer (the only beer worth drinking). Read more
Delicious! Eaten here several times and it's been amazing every time! I really enjoy the Fajitas and the Tacos al Pastor! The... chicken soup and the Hot salsa are perfect for when you're feeling under the weather. Pictures are the chicken soup andquesodilla fajita mix lunch (it's huge!) EXCELLENT FOOD AND EXCELLENT SERVICE! WOULD RECOMMEND AND DEFINITELY RETURN!
Lacking in hospitality a little but we will come back. A nice greeting or smile would have been good or even a "welcome" when... you came in or "thank you" when you left. But as for the food it did come out hot except the cheese dip, which was barely evenwarm. Salsa and chips was good. Food was good and some pretty authentic. We tried many different items. Good portions andyou got your order in, your food out to your table, and even a few pass by your table to check on you in a timely manner so theservice was decent. It was well priced and never felt overcharged on anything we ordered. Yes I would recommend this place andwe will try to go again for maybe we just hit them on a bad or busy night. We still made sure to tip well due to not having towait on anything for any period of time so service gets an A+ . Also, don't be afraid to ask for the really hot sauce if youlike to add something to your salsa to give it a kick, but don't use too much without trying it first. It was very tasty andwell made but habanero all the way! Read more
Closed at 11:00 pm on Fridays but all the rugs were outside at 10 pm when I drove up so I asked if they were still open, they... all responded no. As I walked away they all started laughing. What a joke. Its a shame because I like the food enough to dealwith the rude wait staff but not enough to be disrespected. I'll never be back or my family or my crew. Read more
