Reviews for Kyung Sung Restaurant in Newport News, VA
Really good food! Delicious! I grew up in Korea and this tasted a lot like what I remember as my favorite flavors. I ordered... food for a dozen people: beef bulgogi, fried and steamed mandu, kimbap, japchae. It was all excellent. Loved the kimchees andbean sprouts on the side. So glad to know this place is nearby. Read more

Had an absolutely delicious meal here! The pork belly comes in massive strips and there was plenty of food for both of us! The... steamed egg was a surprise delight and the soup is spicy yet savory! While you need to be patient as there isn?t a lot of staff,it is worth it! Read more
I?m so disappointed, I ordered for pick up. Before I ordered, I called to ask if I could get fried rice instead of white rice... with the dinner entrees, this was our first time eating here, the lady on the phone said yes you can and any specialinstructions we will see it and charge the up charge. When my husband walked in to the counter and gave my name for the pick upthe guy was had gave our order to someone else and they where walking out the door smh. Soooo when he got home, 1st they shouldnot call that fried rice, it?s white rice with oil on it, 2nd I ordered the kids chicken and fried rice they gave us a kidsbeef, 3rd my husband got the spicy chicken Bulgogi and I had the Galbi with special instructions to add shrimp to our friedrice, they didn?t add the shrimp and our meat was not tender at all! When I called the guy stated he was new, the same lady goton the phone that I spoke with before ordering and was very rude and did not care, no apology for the experience and messing upour order! The Mandu was ok, the prices are ridiculous they are charging for that food! The best experience was how easy it wasto order on the website. Back to the drawing board to find a good Korean restaurant. Read more

This is one of my favorite Asian cuisine restaurants in the area. I didn?t really expect to have a good time because of how... small and drab the building looks however I was pleasantly surprised. The seating arrangement wasn?t the best as the tables wereall scuffed and definitely need to be replaced. The appetizer we had were friend dumpling with this paste which you had to addvinegar or soy sauce to. I really enjoyed mixing my own sauce because there?s that aspect of interactivity and you can choosehow strong you want your sauce to be. The waitress told us the paste was VERY strong so we should be careful but I eventuallydiscovered that it wasn?t that strong at all and I started just eating it straight out the container. One major problem I wouldlike to point out is the lack of hygiene. Our waitress was not wearing a mask during the pandemic. Usually I wouldn?t mindpersonally since we are all fully vaccinated with the booster however our waitress must?ve been sick or something because shewas sniffing a lot and you could see the snot in her nose. That?s absolutely unacceptable during a pandemic. I get that somepeople are desperate for money during these times and NEED to work even when sick but she could?ve at least worn a mask? Anywaysour food was incredible. It was beautifully decorated with colorful veggies and the serving sizes were big. I had dumpling soupthat came with a serving of white rice. The soup could?ve had a tap but of more flavor but it came to the table hot and eitherway I was satisfied. Overall the prices were fair for what we got. Read more

I have been to Korean bbq restaurants before and this one is different because you have specific requirements in order to have... the food cooked at the table. Basically you have to spend more. That was kind of disappointing, but when we saw some other tablegetting set up for the BBQ I?m kind of glad we didn?t follow through with it, because they had to cook for themselves when I?mused to them cooking at the table for us. But beside that, the food quality though more expensive, is excellent. We ordered thewonton soup which was delicious and we loved the flavor and the use of egg, which was a pleasant surprise. I would go back toorder that again. Entrees were spicy beef bulgogi (it was not too spicy) and the beef ribs which came with rice and frieddumplings. They gave a small bowl of sides that we had to share which was also disappointing compared to other Korean bbqplaces. But the portions of the meat were good and the beef ribs were the best ribs I?ve had in a long time. Cooked toperfection and flavorful. I would go back just for those ribs again. Overall it was a good experience, the waitress was kind andpatient explaining their menu to us. They do seem to have a short staffing issue (like most places these days) and it took awhile to get our food but they did inform us that there would be a wait and apologized. The restaurant is nothing fancy ifthat?s what you are looking for, it?s very casual dining. I look forward to having the wonton soup and beef ribs again. If youare looking for an all you can eat, cook for you at your table style Korean bbq, this is not the place for you. But if you enjoyquality beef ribs and wonton soup definitely make it happen for yourself! Read more
