Don't overlook breakfast at the Newport News Cracker Barrel. It is a treat. My husband and I enjoy breakfast out and this... morning was a special treat. All the usual favorites are there, but new additions are often featured. The cinnamon roll pie isdelicious, but we were also impressed by the service. This staff rocks! They were especially good at noticing new people. Eventhough busy, they took the courtesy to acknowledge us and say, "I'll be right with you." This Friday morning shift was supercourteous, professional, and efficient. Our waiter, Jean, was among this fine group, but all from the check-in to the check-outseemed to care about what they were doing and did it well. We dine out at a variety of places, but this mornings experience wasworth writing about. Read more

Service was excellent and quick. My daughter ordered the sampler dinner and everything was good. Food portions were more than... ample. It will be enough for 3 meals. I ordered the veggie platter with baked sweet potato as one of them. It was a two dollarupcharge which was definitely not worth it. The sweet potato was burned on the bottom but still partly uncooked and hardinside. Next time I will not order it. Read more

Barbara was our waitress, she's very new but was amazing. The five stars are for her...food just isn't the same after Covid, the... mashed potatoes were hard and the pinto beans had no broth, like they were microwaved, so it was a clump of beans. The chickenwas good. No more peg games here. Didn't know I'd miss it until it wasn't there. Other restaurants still have them. MidSeptember and Christmas trees are out already. Read more

As far as Cracker Barrel's go, this is one of the better ones for lunch. Dinner can sometimes be a challenge when the crowds are... there. The food is always good. The service is usually good but like any place you can get a server who is not as attentive asyou need. Simple things like not making sure your drink is refilled. Not checking on the table from time to time. I get it. Theyget busy and there's a lot to do but you have to stay on top of your customers needs. Read more

I'm not sure what has happened to this place over the last couple of years. This use to be the place to go and get great... breakfast. The food was not good at all. This can't be blamed on the pandemic. I had no issues with the service or thewait. Scrambled eggs were over cooked and dry. Toast burnt. I'm done and won't be back. This is a tourist city and there areother places to go and get really good food. One funny thing happened. While checking out we got 2 packs of candy for $1.59and our breakfast came to $32. They tried to charge us $144. ???? the cashier didn't notice that the candy was labeled $40 apiece. ???????? we won't be returning. Read more
