Food was good, vibes were great, drinks were delicious, busser was speedy, but server was slow and had an attitude. We were a... big group so gratuity was included in the bill, so it's unfortunate we didn't get service that was worth a 20% tip. We ordereddrinks before we ordered food, and the food started coming out 30 minutes later without having received our drinks. Servicecontinued to be slow the rest of the night. Read more
Love this place! The food was great! I love the decor too. Old ship theme throughout! They did an amazing job of finding unique... ways to incorporate it. Plenty of tvs everywhere if you want to watch sports. Service was fantastic and they offer so manyoptions for beer and food! Highly recommend!! Really enjoyed our brunch at Helmsman. Ample free parking in back. Inside, lots of seating choices with a view of multiple TVs... from most seats. It had a great nautical theme throughout. Our waiter was awesome. Friendly guy, deep knowledge of the housebeer list, and made great recommendations. Portions on the food were pretty large. My favorite thing was the fries...crispy,salty, thicker than standard fries but not too thick. I could have had a few pints and a plate of fries and been quite happy.I'm pretty sure we'll go back when next in Newport. Read more

Had a great time at the Helmsman! Fantastic Bloody Mary to recover from the night before. Awesome spot to watch games and they... have a ton of outside seating if you want a little social distancing with your home crafted pint of beer. Don't ask forterrible beers like Coors lite. They don't serve it! And the might have the best logo ever! Had to buy a shirt as a souvenir! Read more
This place is great! The staff is friendly and lots of fun, the food is an amazing elevated take on standard bar food, and the... drinks are delicious. Troy was super helpful with making our selections, and everything he suggested was spot on! Definitely trythe beet poke bowl and the fish tacos, they are simply fantastic. We stopped here after a long walk and the beers, the atmosphere, the service and the food all hit the mark. They have a great... selection of beers and we were able to get two flights to try 8 of them. Great vegetarian and pescatarian options. The nachoswere yum, the coconut shrimp were crunchy and hot and the vegan poke was a creative dish. Nice open spaces inside and out.Definitely recommended for a good meal in a chill place. Read more
