Looking for a mix-up while out on vacation, I stopped into Nguyens Asian Grill in Banner Elk. It?s always a bit nerve-wracking... walking into a new restaurant without much research, but luckily the menu conveniently labeled vegan options for me, which madeordering generally easier. I started off my meal with a delightful order of Veggie Spring Rolls. Each bite had that satisfyingcrunch and powerful punch of flavor, which hit the spot on its own. However, my entree of Teriyaki Tofu with vegetables andwhite rice was nothing to scoff at either. The vegetables were both soft and potent, and the tofu was grilled to a lovelyfluffy yet crisp consistency, and lended their flavors to the rice. To wash it all down, I enjoyed a sugarcane boba tea. I had a lovely experience with Nguyens tonight. All of the food was delicious and a few of us agreed this was the best miso soup... we've ever had! We ate way too quickly to have taken pictures of the food but we have plenty of leftovers! The food took awhile, but was more than worth it. I ordered takeout and even after the drive home it was still very fresh. While I was waiting,I spoke to a lovely young woman who mentioned her father added different shapes of glitter into the tables. This is a wonderfulrestaurant and it has quite a few details like these which I very much appreciate. I absolutely love this place. The only issue is the shirmp/white sauce has been added to and has a spice to it. And isn?t what... it used to be. And the soup. What you served before y?all closed was so amazing and to die for. I hope the original recipe cancome back. ?? Read more

The food was good, as was the service. I was irritated that the server took the liberty of adding a 20% tip before brining the... check. I always tip, but it should be at the discretion of the diner. There were only 4 of us. We were no more trouble thananyone else. Restaurants that add a tip for large parties (usually 8 or more) note it on the menu and I have never seen morethan 18%. I paid it rather than make a scene, but I was not happy about it and likely won't go back any time soon. Read more

The Nguyens Asian Grill is a welcome addition to the restaurant choices in the area. The restaurant's space is updated and very... clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The chicken and shrimp hibachi meals we had were excellent, well priced, and generousservings. Their sauteed vegetables were especially good. Their hrs are 11:30 AM-2pm and 4 -9 PM . Finally reopened in new location (across from Lowe's hardware)! As of July, menu limited (no sushi right now) but food is still... great. So glad to have Nguyen's back. Be patient while they rebuild staff - dine-in & takeout are available and full menu willbe back soon. Small outdoor dining is a new addition. Read more
