I been dying for a Cuban sandwich for a long time. I was in the area and wasn't liking Omar's reviews, so I tried La Cocina's.... The bread was a bit thick and puffy for my taste, the roast pork was shredded, not sliced, and 1 measly piece of ham. The roastpork was a bit to salty, and hardly any flavor at all. I'm not sure if it was pressed, but I pressed it when I got home. Photois pressed at home. Not a fan, won't go back. This is not my experience with Cuban sandwiches. Read more
Ate here today for the first time 8/2/2022. This place did not disappoint! As soon as I walked in and saw the food.....I was in... heaven! As soon as I got home and put a fork full in my mouth, I knew this was going to be my spot! Getting good latin cuisine ,like soul food is a hit or miss. This place definitely hit! Absolutely in love with this place. I already had high hopes of the food but the list the of foods available today (Tuesday) was... a big variety and I was very pleased with the flavors and how everything was well cooked. There were enough staff members toattend to everybody?s needs, and the energy just felt peaceful,homelike and friendly. They had colorful artwork displayed andthey?re even for sale. There was A/C. They have a couple stairs to get into the restaurant going down but other than that it?sone floor unless you want to go outside and onto the balcony they have upstairs with umbrellas. I was in the mood for some Spanish food and tried this spot. When I arrived I found parking on the street nearby. I walked in... and was greeted. The service was great. I ordered several meals and for myself I got the salmon with the rice and beans. When Iate the food was soo good. The salmon was seasoned to perfection and the rice and beans were soo good. This is a great take out spot! They have delicious coffee, and the rice and beans are very tasty. I got arroz con gandules,... white rice, beans, fried plantains, and a cafe con leche. I'll definitely be back for more. The owners are very nice and happyto explain the different dishes. Read more
Excellent food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and super affordable. The owner even stopped by afterward to ask how... everything went. Be sure to try the salsa that goes with the empanadas. Delicious! Read more
We stopped by La Cocina for Monday lunch. It?s a small store in the busy downtown area of Newark, parking is really really hard... to get. There 5-6 tables inside the store too dine-in, it?s self served, not so fancy esthetic wise. The line starts right atthe door, luckily no one was in front of us. They served it chipotle style, you get to pick the items for your plate. The havewhite, brown, bean rice, vegetables, chicken/beef stew, baked chicken, salmon and few other items. The have ready made empanadastoo. The price so reasonable, between $9-$12 for a decently large portion. We tried the chicken stew, baked chicken andsalmon. Everything tasted like freshly homemade. Both brown and white rice were excellent quality. The stew chicken almostmelted before even I bite it. Salmon was cooked to perfection, and baked chicken has this lovely brown skin with beautifulcooked inside. This is a hidden in Newark, and for sure will be a regular spot for our lunch. Read more
Beware of ordering through Uber eats, just received my order of pernil with 2 sides. The star of the dish ?Pernil? pulled pork... was completely missing as if I didn?t order it. Super waste of time and money as expensive as it was charged. I work near byand always recommend this restaurant to all of my colleagues, clients and vendors. But omg I guess the joke was on me.
