I don’t recommend the spicy garlic fried eggplant because the flour wrap is too thick… But other meat dishes are all very... savory and authentic! Will come back to try more! Read more

Some of the best Szechuan in the city. (No, I don't get American Chinese food at specialty places like this.) After 4 years, I... was happy to learn this restaurant has returned (and looks like it has been for some time now.) I got food to go, but theinterior looked really mid-to-high end. I went ahead and got a few things to compare them to other Szechuan places in thecity: -Spicy Cucumber Salad - $12.95 -Smoky Wok Tossed Spicy Asian Green Chili - $16.95 -Deep Fried Fish and Potato Peanuts -$24.95 -Stir Fried Chicken w Spicy Roasted Chili (basically three-pepper chicken) - $21.95 Even eating the food 20 minuteslater, its some of the best in the city. Everything was great. The highlight was the Deep Fried Fish and Potato/Peanuts dishwas something I had never had before and it was my favorite. The three-pepper chicken was good too, even with the skin left onthe chicken. Definitely will be back when by Bryant Park. Read more

Szechuan Gourmet on 39th street has such a nice ambiance, it was a surprise! It is a casual fancy Chinese decor, which I much... appreciated. The menus is extensive, and there the more basic Chinese dishes all the way to more adventurous ones. I started offwith the fried eggplant, which I didn’t care for that much in terms of flavor, but got my appetite going. The star of the mealwas the mapo tofu, my main course. The flavors are very rich, and the tofu was heavenly creamy. It is a very strong meal, and itmade me a little queasy, but I recognize that is due to me not being accustomed to the szechuan sauce, so if you are sensitive(which I’m usually not), try something less rich in flavors. But if you are not, please get it. The other guest at the tablegot a fried chicken with chilies, and I ate some too, and it was perfect, in seasoning, in crunchiness. Very good! For dessert,we got pumpkin cakes, which were good, but not really necessary after the excellent main courses. I am looking forward to comeback and try out more things! Read more

This is definitely one of the best authentic Szechuan restaurant in Manhattan! The portion is so generous and the price is quite... reasonable especially thinking of the location. Most importantly, the flavor is so good! You can literally try any dish in themenu, you will not be disappointed. Read more

I like the food and the lighting in the restaurant. Some dish are a little salty for my taste but still bearable. Also the place... is never too crowded so it is nice if you want a quiet time without too much of noise pollution. Service is ok. They can talknicer to the customers. Price is quite fair for the food quality. Also, there are many other Chinese restaurants around so youcan take your pick but this one is worth visiting when you are in town, I think. Read more
