I have been coming to Sigiri for over a decade and as a vegetarian foodie I have never been disappointed! Food is cooked with... spices unique to Sri Lanka and it?s the perfect amount of spice that tastes incredible. Tips: - Cash only or Venmo - BYOB -Casual, friendly place - Prepare to wait for your food to be cooked and served at their own pace Try: - vegetable soup(aromatic) - vegetable spring rolls - Kotthu Roti (best dish) - Rice and curry comes with papadum (like an Indian thali) - Aappawith sambol Read more

Very first time at a Sri Lankan restaurant and because we love spicy food we left happy and well fed. This is a very authentic... family restaurant, their food cooked on the spot. Our entrees Chicken Lamprais with different layers of spiciness of chilipepper and peppercorn, and Sri Lankan Crab Curry both absolutely delicious. You go to this small restaurant for their food notthe ambiance and they absolutely deliver the quality they promise. Will be back! Read more

Small place; cash only. Expect somewhat slow service. Food was good. They didn?t have the eggplant curry we were looking for but... the deviled prawn curry and the coconut bread didn?t disappoint. Ask for their coconut spice side. Read more

I don?t normally complain on food but I had to write this review as no one deserves the food we were sent from Sigiri. We cook... and eat authentic Sri Lankan food at home daily. We were in New York for few days and thought of getting Sri Lankan fooddelivered to our hotel. Delivery was late (Uber issue), We ordered, Chicken Lamprais, Pork Koththu and Devilled Chicken allrequested to made Very Spicy as we cook authentic very spicy Sri Lankan food daily at home. However, we were sent a pack of verypoor Fish Lamprais, which is not even proper Lamprais. The rice was made with broken basmati, which is cheap and doesn?t tastegood. The Pork Koththu hardly had any pork in it but mountains of fried crushed red chillies were thrown to make it ?veryspicy?. The same treatment was given to the devilled chicken dish. No one deserves the kind of food we were sent, absolutelyfull of oil and mountains of fried crushed red chilli flakes. If this is what you send to anyone who orders ?Spicy Sri Lankanfood? you guys know nothing about Sri Lankan food. Spicy food doesn?t mean you throw half a bottle of crushed red chilli ontothe dish. You don?t even deserve a single star for my food order but that?s the least I can give you. I hate to throw food butthe food you delivered was not edible, that's $75 worth food in the bin, we slept empty stomach. Separate review on Ubersoon. If anyone to try this place, don?t ask them to make it spicy, you will get inedible food loaded with fried and oilycrushed red chillies. That?s not authentic Sri Lankan food. Read more

Sigiri is a Sri Lankan restaurant, planted amongst Indian restaurants in the East Village. a walk-up restaurant from the... sidewalk?small/medium space full of warm colors, some Sri Lankan decor items. the vibe is casual and welcoming. the menu of SriLankan dishes is small but but offers a lot of range. however, the general theme is relatively spicy hot even when asking for?mild??the entrees errs toward bringing the heat. you were warned! faves for appetizers: the fish cutlets and/or fried springrolls. both are deep-fried and have crunch exteriors?each filled with a unique savory filling. each is great as astarter. faves for entrees: chicken lamprais, dish of rice, chicken, eggs, eggplant, and a bunch of other foods baked inbanana leaf. it?s awesome. Kothu roti, shredded roti bread stir fried with veggies, spices, eggs, and more. you can chicken orbeef added in but the vegetarian version is perfectly delicious and the way i prefer it. deviled chicken is basically a sautéeof chicken, veggies, and tomatoes in a bunch of Sri Lankan spices, served with rice on the side. savory, flavorful. all curriesare tasty / spicy if you are looking for something more simple. all are coconut milk based. i prefer the chicken or prawn. theAapas? which is more of a shareable side dish are great. bowl-shaped pancakes served with either a onion sambol or coconutsambol. i like ordering these with any of the curry dishes and dipping pieces of the pancake in or just pour a little bit of thecurry in the whole pancake. definitely sharing is both caring and the way to go in terms sampling the breadth of the menu. thekitchen being slow is a constant at Sigiri. most of the dishes just have long cook times and factor in multiple tables orderingdishes like that will eventually cause a traffic jam of orders. that is just a fact that can?t be cured. and nor should anyonewant the kitchen to speed up bc the food will suffer in terms of quality. my best advice is to come to Sigiri ju Read more
