Needed a bite to eat before crossing Central Park to go to the Met and found this place. A modest line and happy to see so many... celiac options. Got the B.E.C. from their menu. I've always heard I needed to try bagels while I'm in New York and glad this wasthe space I got to experience it. No seating inside but a sign says we were welcomed to be at the outdoor patio whichtechnically belongs to the restaurant next door. Enjoyed my bagel on a cute patio (albeit accompanied by deafening jackhammersfrom the construction right in front of me, but I think that added to the quintessential NYC experience). Read more

In the photos the place looks very cozy and stylish, The food looks amazing as well. So as for the food, the pastrami salmon and... cream cheese sandwich was indeed very good. The apple fritter I did not like so much, but I think it is a personal preference, there was nothing bad with the fritter. However, as for the atmosphere and staff, the place is nothing as shown in the photos.Firstly, the indoor seating is impossible. Secondly, when you want to place your order, it is not very clear where you need togo, who is taking the orders. The places is hectic, customers are confused, and the staff just don't care. Tipping starting from15%? With this kind of service you deserve 0 tip! Read more

Came here at 10:28am on a Sunday late October. From when we got in the line to when we got the receipt, it was a one hour... wait. We got too bagel lox and spread sandwiches. It came with arugula tomato and pickled onion. My boyfriend got everythingand I got sesame. I thought the everything was better - more flavor. If you would prefer a mild tasting bagel, you could choosesesame between the two. For gluten free bagels, these were some of the doughiest chewiest I have had. The vegan cream cheesewas also very good- texture, flavor and creaminess. For “dessert”, I tried the double chocolate zucchini bread which isalso vegan. It was phenomenal. Super chocolately and moist. I would highly recommend this if you like chocolate baked goods. Read more

I hate to come out this strong, but honestly one of the grossest bagels I’ve ever had. And outrageously expensive. They... don’t have lox spread, so I got a lox and cream cheese everything bagel. The bagel itself is tough and so loaded down with theseasonings it’s difficult to eat. And the seasonings were burnt to being black, so the bagel tasted burnt. Also, no continuityin bagel sizes. Another lox bagel in our order was - no exaggeration- half the size of mine. What led me to write this reviewwas that the lox I had on this $$$$ bagel was a laughable amount. See photo (sorry for the bites, I realized I should capture itfor the review a few bites in when I realized I hadn’t tasted lox yet). This spot was rated the #2 bagel in the city. Sadly,I have to say pass. Read more

The first time I went to Modern Bread and Bagel I was so excited to have some gluten free bagels. The bagels from the first time... were excellent. This time, not so much. I placed an order for pickup about an hour and half before because I figured they werebusy and wanted to give them more time to prepare my bagel order. When I arrived I picked up the bag and happened to look in.Initially, I saw two cinnamon raisin bagels were burnt. I gave them back and was told that only one cinnamon raisin bagel wasleft and that they could offer the replacement. Those two bagels weren't burnt so I went on my way, only to find out when I gothome that the rest of the bagels were burnt in the bag too. It is really bad practice for a bagel shop to do this. To receiveall burnt bagels shows a real lack of quality control. Very disappointed and I hope Modern Bread and Bagel can do better in thefuture. Read more

Our favorite stop during our week in NYC. This place is amazing! You wouldn't even know these fresh baked bagels are gluten free... and the sandwich + toppings are so amazing! Egg salad is to die for and the tuna is fantastic. Can't wait to go back again! Read more

My Celiac son and I traveled over an hour to get to this restaurant we heard so much about. Let me just tell you it was time... well spent. He loved everything he ordered and my sandwich didn't even taste gluten free. The service was great and If we livedany closer it would definitely be our go to stop! Read more
