You can definitely expect food and service here at the Raccoon Saloon in Marlboro, NY to be extremely pleasing. We attend dinner... nights and family events here frequently. This is a perennial spot for my fiance's family and we just went here again yesterday. For the first time I tried the Sunday... Seafood first and it was amazing, especially for the price. The Appetizers were fresh and hot and the Salad ordered tasted good and had a very nice portion size. My wife ordered the... shepherds pie. This unfortunately was not good at all. I hate to give a bad review but the shepherd pie was awful and tastednothing like a shepherds pie. The meat was greasy black over cooked salty ground meat soaked in oil with a few bits of carrots(4 tiny pieces in total) no other vegetables. This was definitely over cooked left over meat ( not sure what kind) loaded withsalt and grease and covered with mashed potatoes in top. This definitely was not a shepherd pie. We were planning on goingthere for dinner one nite this week because a friend recommended the place. Unfortunately we probably won?t go back. We we?rea little frustrated when trying to order because we wanted a few recommendations being our first time there. We asked ourserver what she recommended and she said she didn?t like to recommend food. My wife asked how the shepherds pie was and shesaid it was good. (Definitely not good or worth $15.98). Lunch cost $60 more than we would normally spend, but we wanted togive your place a try. We like to support local businesses so spending a little more money on lunch at local establishment issomething we always do. The server definitely worked hard that day and we left a very good tip even though we were notcompletely satisfied with my wife?s lunch. It was not her fault how the food was prepared. Not trying to bash your businesswe were just very disappointed on that one dish that was served and want you to know what came out of your kitchen. They have a wide selection of liquor, however the service is quite slow. The food is alright, but the quality is lacking. The... fish tasted as though it was dunked in butter and the southwestern chicken cheese steak was bland. The peppers were also muchhotter than the chicken, which may indicate that they were microwaved. I can't say I'll be returning. Read more
A sports bar pretending to be a tavern. Staff were great and very friendly. Rowdy crowd on a football Sunday evening that... drowned out any resemblance of an atmosphere. Sad to see a local establishment not sell any local beers on tap , especiallywith so many in the area to partner with. Large brand name domestic choices only. Cauliflower wings were premade andfrozen. Seafood special was okay. Shrimp, clams and crab legs were good, the lobster was far from fresh and tasted likenothing.
