Reviews for The Sullivan House in New Shoreham, RI
The location is perfection. On a hill overlooking the marina, sunset and wide open lawns. It?s quiet and historic and the... breakfast was generous and lovely every morning. Everyone that works there was warm and helpful and the general vibe was cozyand accommodating. Along with being on a beautiful property, it?s directly across the street from the main public beach, whichhas bathrooms and surprisingly good food. The beach is clean and water perfection. Lifeguard for kiddos is nice too. The placeis old, while the room is very sunny and comfortable it?s small and the bathroom is tiny and could use a facelift, (only reasonfor 4 not 5 stars). Overall, it?s a great place to stay and I?d come back in a heartbeat! Read more
Had a great stay with my wife. Very quiet and remote. Room No 2 is awfully small but it was ver clean and for one night... sufficient. Breakfast was great. We loved the views from the House. Perfect for watching sunsets. Read more
My wife and I were there on our Honeymoon. The team at the Sullivan House was fantastic. The breakfast they provide is great and... the hospitality that is provided while you enjoy your breakfast is on point. The views from sunrise and sunset are amazing andthe location is peaceful enough to simply enjoy your time. The house is historic so if you can adapt you will have no problemstaying there. Thank you team Sullivan house for our going away gift to congratulate us on the wedding. We will for sure beback. Read more
Firstly, this review is long overdue as we stayed in July. The location of The Sullivan House is first rate. Perched hilltop... with amazing views of Salt pond on one side and the beach to the other, it provided a 6 minute moped ride into town, whileoffering the peace and quiet of a retreat location after time in town with all the ferry partiers (despite Covid-19). Sitting onthe back porch for morning coffee and afternoon beverages could not be more perfect. I can imagine why this would be such astunning wedding venue when all restrictions are off. At a time when customer service seems to be of the past, The hosts,Rosalie and Sean (apologies if names are misspelled or misunderstood) were unbelievably amazing and went beyond and out of theirway to make us comfortable on what was a very hot week. She even was extremely gracious when we accidentally "borrowed" a guest'sbike and she quickly jumped into action to make sure transportation was all arranged and a swap could be made in time! Weenjoyed talking with them so much and can see why this place lends itself to returning year after year. The breakfast was notbuffet, which we preferred with especially with the personalized touches and attentiveness, and was unbelievably delicious.First day was omelette to our liking, with fruit, yogurt, granola, danish, sausages, potatoes... was there anything missing? Thesecond day was a wonderful homemade quiche. Since my husband prefers eating gluten free, Rosalie was happy to accommodate withan omelette again. The rooms are old-style victorian Queen Anne as is the style with most places on the island, but verycomfortable. It's customer service like this that make a place. Thank you for a lovely stay and we look forward to being backagain. Read more
We are frequent visitors to Block Island and have stayed at several different places. The Sullivan House is in the top 1 or 2.... The owners and staff are personable and very heloful. The location on the crest of a hill overlooking the Great Salt Pond isideal. With 7 rooms the Inn doesn't get crowded and for the 5 nights we were there all of the other guests were pleasant andinteresting to talk to. The Inn isn't air conditioned but with the windows open and a sea breeze who cares. Breakfast wasfilling and very well done. With a large wrap around porch even on a marginal weather day it was easy to settle in and read agood book. The beach is right across the street from the entrance. We bring a car to the island but many of the guests whodon't the Inn is a reasonable walk from the ferry and several rented scooters or took a cab. We plan on visiting again. Read more

Definitely coming back to this amazing island again and stayingin this wonderful house! We were treated like family here and can?t wait to come back! Read more
Jimmy Buffett gave us the idea to go to Block Island. We were fortunate enough to book a stay at the Sullivan House on our 2nd... anniversary. We were so pleased with our stay. It was prime location for us, across from the beach, just outside of town, andtheir old-fashioned athletics. Their breakfast was delicious. Great ocean breeze and views. Extremely pleasant staff Read more
I stayed here with my girlfriend for two nights in ?Room 2,? otherwise known as the ?Small Queen? room. The location of the... Sullivan House cannot be beat, with views of New Harbor in one direction and Crescent Beach in the other. The property andviews are probably the best on the island. Hot breakfast was provided and was very good, with varying items each day. Theproblem we had with the stay was the room was comically small (hardly larger than the bed itself,) and one wall was angled insuch a way that you could only stand in about half the space. I?m only 5?7?, and couldn?t sit up on the left side of the bedwithout hitting my head. The bathroom consisted of a toilet and a tiny shower, with the sink on the other side of the room. There were no towel bars or hooks anywhere in the room or bathroom. There was no closet or anywhere to hang clothing. Thewindow air conditioner was barely adequate to cool the room, and was positioned in a corner in such a way that it blew most ofthe air against a wall. I have traveled extensively all over the world and stayed in many budget motels and hostels, and thiswas one of the ?coziest? and most uncomfortable rooms in which I have ever stayed. With taxes and fees, we paid $350 per nightfor this room, which in all honesty should be a closet. It?s no secret that Block Island during the summer months is expensive, but this price could only be described as obscene for the space provided. Amazingly, it is only about $100-150 less than othermuch nicer rooms in the hotel. There are photos on the website of the room, but they clearly are purposely angled to avoid theangled wall. I have attached some realistic photos of the room. The hotel also offers bicycles and kayaks for rent. Thebicycles are clearly not well-maintained and cost $35 for 6-8 hrs. We opted to rent from a place in town for $20-25 for 24hours. The single kayaks are $35 for two hours, which is comparable to kayak companies in town. We chose to Read more
