Best dinner we had in Nola this weekend, as we got tired of the same old chicken and waffles or the shrimp and grits. These... things are good but sometimes you want something different. I?m from Brooklyn NY near a neighborhood called ?Little Haiti? so Iknow Haitian food. This may not be the most 100% authentic place but it comes close enough and is executed better than a lot ofplaces including those tourist trap places. It?s a homey cozy spot that?s good for either date nights or friends and family withkids. Surprised by their cocktails, tried the siklon which was a hurricane/rum punch type of drink. We also got akra as anappetizer which was tasty but not the same consistency of akra I?m used to. Shrimp kreyol was pretty good, sauce was more tomatothan anything else but still delicious with huge plantains on the side. Also got the legim and chicken, was able to get a sideof rice on the side instead and chicken was so tender and flavorful. Complimentary kremas topped it off nicely despite gettingbuzzed on just the first drink. Service is warm and friendly, nice that some of the servers don?t make a stank face if you don?tpronounce the names correctly, I don?t think they?re all Haitian. Read more
Came in for an early dinner with friends to revisit the food I first tried when this venue still had a food court style outlet.... The evolution to a full service restaurant is incredible! The owner, Charlie... greeted us at the door, everyone was sofriendly, the atmosphere was perfect, and food was delicious. We started with some fabulous drinks and the platter appetizerwith crispy fried pork, plantains, akra and pikliz. Pikliz is a spicy condiment that goes great with just about anything! I hadthe crab mac and cheese on the recommendation of my Haitian friend who loves this place even more than I do. Despite feeling alittle childlike in placing a mac and cheese order, I am so glad I took the risk. It was rich, creamy, and so filling! Yes...topped it with the pikliz. My friend and I were looking for a place to eat after the original restaurant we wanted to eat at were fully booked. We stumbled... on this place and the restaurant really came through during our time of need! We've never tasted Haitian food but from ourexperience here, we'd definitely want to eat more of it. The service was really good and fast. Ambience was great and thetoilets were really clean. I had the fritai sandwich and loved the flavors. It came with plantain chips and avocado dip whichwas amazing! I am used to having plantain chips but not with avocado dip so that was kind of life changing. My friend hadcreole chicken and the chicken was really good. Rich flavors and moist chicken. We also shared the passionfruit creme bruleewhich was also superb. We definitely had a good dinner here! My fiancé and I were visiting from Florida and decided to come to this restaurant. I will start off by saying the place was... very aesthetically pleasing. Beautiful paintings and good mix of culturally appropriate music. 10/10 The drinks were just ok.Nothing I would want to reorder. 6/10 We had the passionfruit bbq chicken. It was very good. 10/10 we also ordered the griot,and it came with rice and beans. We have it a 2/10. The rice was mushy and bland. The griot was over fried and had NO flavor.The pikliz was made with what look like coleslaw mix and it was very watery. It lacked the spice that pikliz usually has. Wealso ordered the fritay sandwich. 1/10 it was absolutely horrible. The fried plantains were hard and seemed like they were prefried and not fresh at all. I asked for chicken in it and the chicken was bland. It came with an avocado dip and plantain chips.The avocado dip was a purée of avocados and nothing else. No flavor at all. Over all, we would give this place a 3/10. And willdefinitely pass. Read more
